G I U L I A

"Bitch back off!"

"No you back off you simpleton!"

"Shut the hell up!"

My friends Tara and Maddi have been arguing for the past 5 minutes about who would eat the last chocolate croissant. Even people from the other tables were staring at us, probably thinking we were insane.

While they were busy glaring and arguing with each other, I leaned over the coffee table and took it off the wooden tray.

I snapped the croissant in half and gave each of my friends a half.

Like I'm basically the glue for this friendship with these buffoons.

Tara leaned over and hugged me "this is why you're my favorite!"

Me and Tara laughed at Maddi as she was glaring at us.

We were hanging out at our favorite cafe around the corner, Marley's cafe. Marley's has a small library and a small arcade center separated in the back. The menu isn't just pastries and coffee but it's also a restaurant.

Every Friday, we make plans to hang out here, me, Maddi, Tara and sometimes Tyler and Jordan.

Tyler and Jordan can only make it on some Fridays since they both have Basketball practice all week, we've all been friends for about 3 years now.

Maddi has always had a thing for Tyler, they look good together too. Sometimes it seems like he likes her too with the way he waits for her to catch up when we're all together, when he smiles around her a lot, but he's been known to lead people on.

"Is Tyler coming today?" Maddi asked with a hopeful glint in her eyes. "Aw do you miss him?" Tara laughed.

"No! I'm just asking cause he's our friend, that's all" Maddi retorted.

"Yeah ok," Tara kept laughing. Honestly Maddi wasn't fooling anyone, not even herself. She's liked him since forever.

A few minutes passed while we sat there eating and talking when Tyler walked into the cafe with his sports bag, looking like he clearly just walked out of practice.

"Hi guys," he dropped his stuff on the floor and sat down on the armchair between me and Tara across from Maddie, letting out a sigh.

"Hey Tyler," Maddi replied to him smiling at him.

A couple minutes later after ordering his coffee and talking with everyone, he turned to me.

"Hey, how's your mom?" Tyler asked, furrowing his dark eyebrows.

Uhm where did that come from?

"Oh - I - she's fine," I stuttered like an idiot. He raised his eyebrow at me.

Tyler was the only one who really knew about my mom, about her addiction.
