~~~~Jenette~~~~
Seated at the piano bench, my phone placed on the top of the sleek, red piano, the slight shake of the tour bus, I just thought over the last few months:
Zayn became my favorite in the band, my best friend. I broke my ankle so bad that I could never dance again. I went rogue. My brother slapped me. I turned cold hearted. I went to the hospital. I got a kick start as a model, but then the career was ceased when I couldn't go to my management meeting because I had to go on tour with my best friend and abusive brother.....nice life, right? I mean, Liam wasn't that abusive, he only hit me that once...but still.
*FLASHBACK*
"Leyuuummmmmm??!! I need help with mattttthhhhhh!" I whined, chucking my algebra workbook across the room.
"I'll be in there in a minute alright Jen?" He shouted back.
"Okay!!" Looking over at my big grand piano that my father helped me play, I smiled at it. Daddy PROMISED he was going to help me today! He better live up to that slap swear too!
Just then the door flung open to my room and there stood a flustered and puffy eyed Liam.
"J-J-Jenette! D-D-Dad got in a car accident, we have to get to the hospital.
That one day changed my pianist dreams forever.
*FLASHBACK OVER*
The pain of that flashback was unbearable. The images of my father and I making a little picture show in my mind. A smiled weakly at the thought, then tears slipped down my cheeks. I remember how my mother always wanted me to be a ballerina, but dad had shown me the inner and outer beauty of a piano and I instantly was won over. All I ever did was practice and practice. When I turned seven my dad told me he would get me a red piano of my own when I was 12......he never lived up to that promise because of the car accident. I had never laid a hand on a single key of the piano every since. I took my mom's advice and became a dancer because my brother was always so busy making mother proud. All I wanted was to make him proud...he was the dad that I lost...and now I don't even know who he is.
Trembling hands reaching towards the keys, I let my fingers lead the way, and my voice accompany it.
~~~~Zayn~~~~
Seated in a bean bag, checking my twitter, I heard what sound like the piano being played through the thin walls of the tour bus. I swear I heard singing as well. Closing out of twitter, I rushed toward the music room with my phone recording. There she sat. Jenette Cheyenne Payne. Playing the piano and singing, which no one has ever seen since her father passed. I had only collected this info from Liam. Whether it was true or not is a completely different story. As the last note faded out, I stopped recording and applauded.
"That was beautiful. Voice and all." I grinned. She turned around with a look of horror on her face but then it turned into a smile.
"Zayn! I'm so sorry I've been such a bitch lately.....I just.....I miss the attention that I got from my brother. He was like my dad....and I wanted to make him proud, but when you feel someone's there and they're just not watching....you do what you can to get their attention back. I miss you as my buddy! And I want it to stay like that!" She smiled warmly, pulling me into a hug.
"I missed you too buddy, but I think everyone else needs to hear this, because I promise you....no amount of hair dye, or attitude, or acrylic nails are going to catch his attention. But this......the fact that you've broken down your metal barrier and done the things that, made YOU happy.....that's what'll make him proud." I explained to her.
She giggled, then took my hand and we rushed to the living room on the bus where everyone sat talking.
"Do you want me to show them the video?" I questioned, looking her in the eyes.
"No......I wanna play it live." She grinned confidently.
~~~~Jenette~~~~
"No......I wanna play it live." I grinned, holding tightly onto Zayn's amazing soft hands.
"Everybody! I have an announcement! Jenny has found something that makes her happy!!" Zayn bubbled, as everyone applauded.
"Better not be a boyfriend." Liam muttered under his breath.
"It's not, it's something even better, but I need you all to come and see it!" I smiled, gesturing for them to follow me. The all lazily got off their couches, chairs and bean bags,and followed me down the hall. Slipping into the music room....
~~~~Liam~~~~
Zayn said she found something that made her happy. I was dancing inside that she had. That's all I wanted for her....I wanted everything she wanted. I wanted for her to live like we did when dad was there. She smiled and laughed, but she was always a little duller after his passing. But when she was told she couldn't dance it was if her whole world crumbled around her. She was confused, and broken that the one piece of mother she had left was ripped from her hands.....so now I was just hoping whatever this was didn't take too much effort.
We made our way down the hall and into the music room.
But why would she be in there?
Then it hit me.....she sat down at the piano.
Cracking her knuckles, she wiggled them a little, then placed them in position. Starting with the Intro to My Immortal, I noticed she started singing. Closing my eyes, I could imagine father's laugh as he sat beside her, that cute little giggle she would release when he tickled her. I just felt so at home.....I could practically smell mom's meatloaf burning in the oven, the piano keys being pressed ever so lightly, my song book sitting before me on my bed as I tried so very desperately to write a song. The constant clicking of my pen, the panting of my dog Max as he jumped upon my lap. The last note faded out, and I felt something wet drip on my hand. Opening my eyes, I notice my blurred vision. I was crying. Running over I pulled her into a huge embrace.
I felt whole again.
