Hitoshi adjusted the heavy pack on his back with a wince. It had been hours since the trio ditched the Charger once it had finally run out of gas. The trio had been travelling by foot since they made it two towns over. They were in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, their packs heavy with their supplies because they'd be damned if they left everything behind after all of those near-death experiences and hard work.
They'd even brought the spare gas in case the RV they eventually found needed it.
"Man!" The tired male turned to watch the blond adjust his pack with a groan of frustration, fixing the spare gas tank in his grasp. "Who knew surviving in the middle of nowhere would be this tough?"
The taller male couldn't help the teasing curl of his lips, meeting the engineer's gaze in amusement. "Welcome to the real world, Blondie," he chuckled, unable to stop his laughter when the blond shot him a scathing look.
Anna's giggles joined the tired male's laughter. "It's far different from the inside of the mall now, isn't it?" She added to the shorter male coyly, adjusting the holster on her hip.
Hitoshi had given her the revolver he'd found in the Charger's glove compartment considering she no longer had a weapon. He didn't think he'd ever forget the way she'd looked at him with mist in her eyes when he'd given her the gun.
There had even been a spare box full of bullets for said gun under the passenger seat. A box that she'd hastily shoved in her pack when they'd been gathering their supplies to leave.
"No kiddin'," the blond sighed, wincing as he adjusted his pack again. "Where the hell are we even going? We've been walking for hours!"
"Stop shouting," their only woman laughed, turning to walk backwards and face the engineer. Hitoshi watched her tilt her head ever so slightly when a giggle tumbled from her lips. "We'll get there eventually, yeah?"
"I know that, babe, but still," Denki huffed in annoyance. "My feet are killin' me!"
Hitoshi chuckled knowingly, meeting the blond's gaze again. "We gotta find an RV, Denks," he laughed lightly, shaking his head. "Kit's right. We'll get there eventually." He added, adjusting the shotgun strapped to his pack.
"Why couldn't we just fill up the car and drive?" The engineer complained, and the purple-haired pair exchanged a knowing look and a laugh.
"Because it's quite possible the RV would need it more, love," Anna fondly explained, crooking her head. "We can't always rely on a vehicle. Sometimes, we can't afford to remain in one place because things don't go as planned. Out here, that will cost you your life."
The blond hung his head. "I know that, Sunshine," he muttered, adjusting his bag. "But we still could've at least filled half the tank. We would've made it twice as far by now."
Hitoshi couldn't lie. The engineer made a good point.
"The gas tank of an RV is twice the size of the Charger's, love," Anna continued through her giggles. "We'd only make it a little way before needing to refill."
She made a pretty good point too. It had been her idea to ditch the car anyway, and Hitoshi didn't exactly blame her. If she hadn't been paying attention, she would've died in that vehicle.
"Where the hell are we gonna find an RV anyway?" The blond grumbled bitterly, and the pair snorted.
"A farm would be a good place to begin looking," she replied, and Hitoshi turned away from the conversation to watch his footing when he nearly tripped over an uneven part of the terrain. "I doubt anyone will miss it regardless."
   "True," the blond murmured.
"Just be patient, Blondie," the taller male chuckled. "When we get the RV, we can relax."
"It will be dark soon, Hito," she spoke softly, and he hummed. His gaze drifted to the darkening sky.
"Yeah," he sighed. "We gotta hurry. I don't wanna stay out here after dark."
"Neither do I," the engineer apprehensively mumbled. "This place already gives me the creep―"
   "Hito!"
The tired male turned to meet her gaze cautiously, his free hand already on his shotgun. "What is it, Kitten?"
She was beaming with joy, her eyes sparkling in relief. "Look!" She pointed across the way, and the pair of men turned to follow her finger in confusion.
"Holy shit." He heard the blond utter in relief.
On the neighbouring hill was an abandoned farm that looked far beyond repair, and there, in the gravel driveway was exactly what the trio had been looking for. The RV stood proud, in better condition than the rest of the farmhouse and accompanying garage.
"Thank fuck," the taller male uttered in relief and couldn't help but laugh when she took off at a sprint.
"Sunshine!" Denki called through his laughter and took off after her. "Wait up!"
The tired male couldn't help but laugh, taking off after the pair to keep up.
It was severely overgrown when the trio reached the gravel driveway, and the roof had begun to cave in on itself. The yard itself looked like it had yet to be taken care of, overgrown brush and vines slowly climbing the one side of the farmhouse to tangle themselves on the lattice surrounding the porch. The garage wasn't any better with rotten wooden slabs and rusty nails.
Hitoshi doubted anyone lived here anymore, the only vehicles in the driveway were the RV and dusty old-fashioned Cadillac in the garage. The vehicle in the garage was far beyond repair, and from what the tired male could see, it was missing a few tires.
"Shit," the blond whistled as the trio approached the RV. "This bitch is pretty nice."
Anna hummed in agreement, setting down her supplies. "She's certainly in wonderful condition given the circumstances. Someone has taken good care of her."
"I'll say," the engineer laughed. The blond turned to look at the decaying farmhouse. "This place has definitely seen better days."
"No kidding," the taller male chuckled, turning to follow Denki's line of sight.
"I'd say it has a certain charm to it," Anna giggled.
Hitoshi couldn't help but laugh, turning to meet her gaze. "You say that about everything, Kit."
She offered him a knowing smile and a nod. "Because it's true," she laughed lightly, flicking her head towards the RV. "C'mon, loves. Let's get this vehicle started."
The pair of men nodded, following after her when she pulled open the door of the vehicle and stepped inside.
The tired male couldn't lie, the interior was pretty nice. Fit with a functional kitchenette and dining area. There was even a moderate hallway that led to the back of the RV towards a spacious bathroom and bedroom.
"Damn," the blond whistled. "She's even nicer on the inside."
Anna smiled, bobbing her head as she made her way to sit in the driver's seat. "She truly is." She hummed after a moment, catching their attention.
   "What's up, Kitten?"
"The keys are still in the ignition," she murmured, turning the keys after a moment, and the vehicle sputtered. Hitoshi watched her brows furrow in concentration, and she tried again. Only to yield the same results.
The tired male couldn't help but chuckle. "I knew bringing the extra gas was a good idea." He turned to meet amber eyes in amusement. "And you complained about it for the last hour because it was 'heavy'." He added teasingly, unable to bite back the smug curl of his lips.
The blond turned away with a huff. "Shut up, Tosh," he murmured with tinted cheeks.
   Hitoshi snorted under his breath.
"You guys load everything up," he fondly said, already reaching the door. "I'll fill the tank."
   "Be careful, love!"
He couldn't help but smile, turning in the doorway to meet her gaze. "Always," he promised.
