Jayfeather woke, totally unaware of what time it was.

Mouse dung! He was enraged. How could I have fallen asleep? I don't even remember falling asleep.

Suddenly a scraggly gray she-cat appeared in front of him. Jayfeather gasped, startled. He could see; that meant he was dreaming right now.

"Yellowfang." he greeted the StarClan she-cat. She was a past medicine cat of ThunderClan, and helped raise Firestar, one of the greatest leaders ThunderClan has known. She was a familiar sight, as when Jayfeather had visions, omens, or StarClan dreams, she was usually there.

Yellowfang dipped her head. "Jayfeather."

"What is it?" Jayfeather snapped.

"Somebody woke up with thorns in their nest, it appears," Yellowfang mocked Jayfeather.

Jayfeather rolled his eyes. He quite liked Yellowfang, and appreciated her help most out of all the StarClan cats, but he couldn't appear soft. Plus, Yellowfang knew he meant no harm or offense to her, especially after all of her help.

"Maybe," Jayfeather grumbled. "Now tell me what I'm here for?"

"You need to forget," Yellowfang mewed solemnly. "It's holding you back."

"What is-"

"You know. She is. Her."

Half Moon... My precious Half-Moon...

"I don't follow. Is this some kind of joke-" Jayfeather played dumb.

"Jayfeather," Yellowfang meowed sternly. "She haunts your memory. You must let her go. You're a medicine cat, first of all. You can't even think about having a mate. Second-"

"You had a mate, Yellowfang, and you were a medicine cat. I don't see why you get to judge me around like-"

"Second," Yellowfang completely ignored Jayfeather's words. "She's been dead for years and years. Half Moon is not coming back. She never will. She's gone, Jayfeather. Gone."

Gone. Gone Gone.

Never. Never. Never.

Dead. Dead. Dead.

Years. Years. Years.

The words echoed, but it wasn't in Jayfeather's mind.

Suddenly the starry setting of StarClan shifted to a dark, creepy place. The beautiful deciduous trees turned into twisted pine trees with tree branches like claws, the stars faded and gave way to foggy darkness, and the sky went from a surreal purple-blue to straight black.

Yellowfang contorted into a tall, even more scraggly she-cat with such dark fur Jayfeather wouldn't be able to see her if it wasn't for her triangle-shaped, white, glowing eyes staring into his.

"She's gone and you'll never get her back." Her voice was dark and deep, not the Yellowfang Jayfeather knew.

Jayfeather gasped awake, his eyes wide. He couldn't see anymore, so he was awake. He breathed in and out, steadying his breathing.
