Staring at his feet, Varian blindly followed Cassandra around the village of Corona.
He gazed at his shoes, noticing his fast yet disorientated pace. He saw rocks come and go. Blades of grass that fought against the soft breeze. He past by that one bunch of sunflowers when he realized he was in shock. What was he thinking? He didn't even know.
Varian barely understood your situation. He knew that you could control those black rocks; the very same ones that he and his friends struggled so hard to fight against in the past. But looking at the holder of such ability...
There was just no way you could be a threat.
And yet, that was the only thing that Varian got from your little rundown about everything that had happened. All he knew for sure was that you thought of yourself as a danger to everybody.
But he could tell - he knew that you didn't believe what you were saying. At least, not deep down. Varian sensed your inner conflict. He knew you couldn't remember anything beyond waking up in Corona, but he suspected some thing or event from your past haunted you. Maybe it was your unknown history that led you to believe you were a terrible person.
Varian looked up and saw the castle doors in front of him. So you had really woken up here with no recollection of how you got there? That seemed strange.
But Rapunzel would know. She was the Queen for crying out loud. She had to know.
Varian walked through the castle door, speed-walking to the throne room with no regard for his surroundings anymore. He clenched his fists and looked at his wrist, the sunflower bracelet you made still on and intact.
He'd find out how you managed to get here. He'd find out the whole story. Anything to get you to stay.
"Varian!"
Varian was shocked out of his thoughts when he was tackled by a huge arm. He looked up to see Lance Strongbow ruffling his air. "Ah, it feels like it's been ages since I've last seen you, buddy!"
Varian blinked and pulled Lance's arm lower so he could see better. Rapunzel sat on the throne ahead, looking as regal and serious as ever. Though at Lance's random embrace, she smiled.
Beside her was Eugene, who was before standing at the arm rest of Rapunzel's throne but sped down the stairs once he saw his friend.
Lance let go and Varian saw Cassandra closing the door behind them. Eugene gave Varian a fist bump. "How's it been, Varian?" He grinned.
Varian couldn't help but smiling back, temporarily forgetting about his earlier thoughts. "Fine, guys." He replied.
Rapunzel got up and walked down the stairs, extending her arms for a hug. Varian walked up to her and did so. "I'm glad." Rapunzel said, looking cheerful. When she and Varian broke apart, she looked at the rest of her friends. "It's been a while since we all gathered here as a team. Doesn't this bring back memories?"
Rapunzel gestured toward a table and chairs diagonally in front of her throne. In the centre of the table was a big brown bowl of assorted fruit, empty stacked glasses and beverages. "Take a seat, all of you." She offered.
Varian moved up towards the table with the rest of the group. He agreed with what Rapunzel said earlier. It had been a while since they all got together. He knew that the Queen had very many important events to attend to what with the festival coming up soon. Which meant that whatever Rapunzel had to say was so important that she couldn't wait.
Varian looked at the rest of his friends sitting down patiently and he decided that he could wait until after the meeting to ask Rapunzel about you.
Eugene instinctively poured everyone a glass of juice and Rapunzel raised her glass. "Cheers!" She beamed.
