The aroma of food filled the air as we delved into a discussion about the pressing issue concerning the vast land near the river.

Liandra, her eyes sparkling with curiosity, leaned towards Jacob and Dieter, her hand resting gently on Jacob's arm.

"Were you two already discussing the issue with the vast land near the river before we got here?" Her voice was soft, yet I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.

Jacob, ever attentive to Liandra, nodded in response, a small smile playing on his lips as he looked at her.

"Yeah, we were just talking about it. Seems like a pretty big deal." His gaze lingered on Liandra for a moment before turning to Dieter, who sat across from him.

Dieter, his expression unreadable as ever, took a moment to consider his words before responding.

"Indeed, it's a complex situation. The local community has different opinions on how to handle the land." His tone was measured, giving nothing away about his thoughts on the matter.

As I recalled, this project succeeded in my previous life, despite my family's initial doubts, particularly from my grandfather, who deemed it unwise to invest.

However, it turned out to be quite the opposite, serving as a driving force for numerous future investors in the area.

Sensing an opportunity to join in, I interjected, "Maybe it should start by surveying the community to get a better understanding of their perspectives and concerns."

My words were met with nods of agreement from around the table, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Liandra's attention was elsewhere - specifically, on Mira.

Liandra, her eyes lighting up with excitement, turned to me with a grateful smile. "That's a great idea, Alexa! It needs to make sure to consider everyone's viewpoints before making any decisions."

Jacob, ever the supportive boyfriend, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I think that's a good starting point. It needs to hear from the people who will be most affected by whatever it's decided."

As the conversation continued, Mira, seated quietly at the end of the table, listened intently, though she remained mostly silent.

Unlike the rest of us, Mira wasn't as well-versed in business matters, often preferring to observe rather than actively participate in discussions related to business.

I couldn't help but notice the way Liandra's gaze flickered towards Mira whenever she thought no one was looking.

There was something in the way that caught my eye, something that made Liandra's smile falter ever so slightly before she quickly turned her attention back to the discussion at hand.

Jacob, noticing Mira's quiet demeanor, oblivious to Mira's hidden feelings, turned to her with a warm smile, including her in the conversation.

"Mira, what do you think? Do you have any ideas on how it could approach the issue?"

Mira hesitated for a moment, her eyes flickering with uncertainty.

"Um, well, I think maybe it could... um, consider the environmental impact? Like, how whatever it decides will affect the animals and plants that live there?" Her words were hesitant, but there was a sincerity in her voice that I couldn't deny.

Jacob nodded encouragingly, a warm smile on his face. "That's a great point, Mira. It definitely needs to think about the long-term consequences of its actions."

Jacob, oblivious to the tension between the two women, continued to engage in the conversation with his usual warmth and enthusiasm.

But I could see the way Liandra's eyes lingered on him whenever Mira spoke, a subtle hint of jealousy flashing across her features before she quickly masked it with a smile...

As the evening wore on and the conversation shifted from one topic to another, we eventually decided to bid goodbye, call for our drivers, and went our separate ways.

And with school looming the next day, we all knew it was time to get some rest before another busy day. But then Dieter, known for his aloof demeanor, surprised me with a rare act of gentlemanliness, offering to drive me home.

His offer was delivered with his usual coolness, yet there was a subtle hint of concern in his eyes that caught my attention.

However, before I could respond, he seemed to remember something and withdrew his offer, perhaps realizing that I had already arranged for transportation.

With a brief nod and a reserved farewell, he departed, leaving me curious about the mysteries behind his calm demeanor.
