The cold air abruptly woke Farmer as he opened his eyes. The room was bright, illuminated by eerie overhead lights. He realized then he was in the clinic.
"Shit.." Farmer muttered to himself. He could feel it in his body, the pain was intense.
He was in Harvey's clinic, and with great remorse the farmer sighed deeply. The doctor and Farmer were not on the best terms. Harvey disagreed with Farmer's way of leading life after other accidents, typically on the farm or getting home late.
Farmer cringed at the memory of his last visit. He yelled at the doctor swearing that Harvey would never see his face again...
"Karma's a bitch.." Farmer muttered to himself.
"Maru, can you prepare the iv fluids for Farmer? I'm going to change his bandages right now." Farmer heard Harvey say from the hall.
Farmer closed his eyes to prepare himself for the tell off he was about to receive. What a hellish existence he thought.
"There you are..." Harvey let out softly. "You'll be just fine, I just gotta change your bandages ok?"
Farmer kept his eyes shut. This was a strange tone from Harvey, his voice was riddled with concern and caring. Not that Harvey was a mean guy, but rather he never spoke to Farmer that way.
"Are you talking to him again? Geez Harvey I don't really see the point... he's been out cold for a week." Maru called out while walking into the room.
"If he wakes up he's going to be frustrated with the fact he can't work. Least I can do is be nice to him now before I have to be tough on him later.." Harvey said earnestly, he never yelled at Farmer maliciously. It was hard not to argue with the stubborn man that was Farmer. The man knew how to press all of Harvey's buttons, and it caused quite a feud between the two.
Harvey began to change Farmer's bandages, soft hands caressing his abdomen. Farmer could feel the sharp cold of the room hit his now-exposed stitches and he instinctively jumped up.
Farmer's abrupt movements scared the doctor as he leapt back with a roll of bandages in his hands.
"You are awake!" Harvey exclaimed, in awe of the zombie that was the coma-awaken Farmer.
"Why is it so cold." Farmer said groggily.
Immediately Farmer felt dizzy, and his head rolled back as the world went black.

"Hello? Hello?" Farmer heard as a bright light shined directly into his eye.
"Yoba! Can you put that away." Farmer snapped at Harvey, flailing a bandaged arm in the air.
"He's responsive!" Harvey called out to Maru.
"Since you have woken up, we have to talk about your current health condition." Harvey said in a clear voice.
Farmer felt exhausted of being in the clinic already. All Harvey ever cared about was his clinic, and all the ways Farmer could live a better life. As if Farmer didn't enjoy the life he was living in the moment, was it really his fault it would often lead to him getting hurt?
"I think I get the gist, I got hurt and now I pay you and go home. Thanks Harv." Farmer said with disdain.
"I'm sorry Farmer.. but not this time." Farmer was used to Harvey becoming quickly frustrated when he said things like that, but instead a thick concern coated the doctor's voice.
"Come on, it's nothing, just give me some healing. stuff." Farmer tried to convince himself. It was unlike Harvey to be so sympathetic with him.
"No Farmer. It won't- it almost didn't work." A wetness glazed Harvey's eyes as he spoke, "You almost died."
"No-" Farmer tried to speak out.
"Don't start with me today. I've told you several times that those mines were dangerous, and against my will you continue going. You lost a liter of blood... when Marlon brought you in you were grey like a corpse. Please reason with me here." Harvey begged, his face contorted with concern.
Farmer was stuck there, but he couldn't afford to waste the time. Running the farm cost money, materials, things he couldn't buy if he was stuck in the clinic.
"Ok fine. Tell me what you need to, but I want to leave this cold-ass room as soon as possible. I have a farm to attend to." Farmer gave in with a sigh. He knew the injuries must of been serious but part of him hoped he could just leave and heal at home.
Harvey then continued to talk about his injuries, internal and external stitches in the abdomen, bruising across the body, blood transfusions, a broken arm, a concussion, and skull fracture. He continued to talk for what seemed like ages using medical jargon Farmer didn't want to admit he couldn't understand. What Farmer did understand was, he was stuck in the clinic with Harvey for a long, long time.
"Curse my life." He mumbled to himself once Harvey left the room.
"I would watch your tongue if I were you, that man saved your life." Maru snapped. She was a nurse for Harvey's clinic, but her and Harvey always seemed closer than just coworkers.
Farmer assumed she got her feelings hurt over him being difficult to her "boyfriend" Harvey.
"Give me some grace Maru, not only do I have to stay here and lose money that I need for the farm, but I'm also right next door to my ex. Not really the best situation." Farmer let out with a groan. Maru really tested his nerves when she wanted to as well.
It was true, however, he could deal with Harvey in the clinic, all the man did was take patients and do paperwork. But right next door was the person he avoided like the plague since his first year. Abigail.
Maru rolled her eyes and left the room, leaving Farmer alone with his thoughts.
And for the first time in his life, Farmer couldn't find any distraction to comfort his boredom. He felt a pit of loneliness consume him, and he rotted in his bed until the next morning.
