FLASHBACK: JUNE 20TH
Age: 9
☼ TWO YEARS had passed since Luke walked out that front door. Two years since he had been left alone to practically fend for himself as a child.
Well, except for his drunk uncle and insane mom.
"You cancelled my birthday party?!" He yelled at his uncle.
"I needed the money to buy a six pack," his uncle told him in drunken slurs.
He let out a scoff. "Of course you did. I had people from school coming over! I was actually going to make friends and not be alone for once!"
"Life sucks, kid. Get used to it."
He hated Luke. He hated him for leaving him all alone.
He loved Luke and that made him want to punch something. Or kill something. Either worked.
"Give me the money back, you jerk! Or are you too old and slow to get up?!"
His uncle stood up and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. He shoved him against the wall and punched him in the mouth.
A jolt of pain went up his face and he didn't even have to react
"This will teach you a lesson, stupid boy!" His uncle yelled.
When his uncle raised his fist again, his hand instinctively went to his sword on the table next to him without thinking.
The next thing he knew, his sword was in his uncles side and everything changed. Nothing in his life was the same after that. He wasn't the same after that.
His uncle stumbled back into the center of the living room and looked at him in horror.
Nick felt frozen in place. He couldn't move. He couldn't even think or process what he had just done.
His uncle disintegrated into the air and his mother of course walked out at that moment.
"Where'd your uncle go?" His mother asked . "Cookies are ready, sweetheart."
He felt like he was going to throw up and he did.
His mother didn't react as usual.
He couldn't take it anymore, so he ran into his room, threw a bag together, and ran out of the Castellan house for good.
Now he was truly all alone.

☼ NIKOLAOS LANDED ON HIS ASS in the dirt and he was pretty sure he had heard Nico laugh at him.
