Author's note: I'M STILL RECOVERING FROM TTPD BUT IT GAVE ME MASSIVE WRITING INSPO SO HERE WE ARE. This story is heavily inspired by the masterpiece that is https://www.wattpad.com/story/342590438-mine which is unfortunately unfinished, I'm following in its footsteps and will hopefully give it a great tribute.
Also this will be smutty eventually, rated mature.
To add, I'm not a gaylor, but I am a bi girlie. This is a work of fiction and I fully respect Taylor's sexuality and don't believe in speculations and analysing real life relationships (or referring to her boyfriends as beards). Keep it classy and sassy <3
----Morning light gently slipped through the slits in the curtains of Taylor's New York City apartment bedroom. Yet, Taylor Swift had been lying awake, eyes closed, long before daylight had begun to filter in, not feeling ready to embrace the day that lay ahead.
A soft groan escaped her as she felt a rough paw brush against her face. "Meredith, not now, please," she murmured softly, eyes still firmly shut. She often wished her cats could sense her desire to remain undisturbed, to not rise just yet on certain days. However, Meredith persisted, nudging her until Taylor finally opened her eyes, slowly adjusting to the light that managed to seep through the curtains. She had no intention of acknowledging the time - she knew she should've been awake hours ago.
"What do you need, sweetheart?" she said, turning towards Meredith, who had now settled in the warm spot on Joe's side of the bed, where the sunlight shone through the curtain with clear intent. Taylor observed with a mix of annoyance and affection as Meredith got comfortable, curling up on the sunspot.
"Seriously?" Taylor raised an eyebrow in disbelief. "You woke me up just to take a nap yourself?" Typical cat.
Taylor exhaled deeply, her thoughts drifting towards Joe. The emptiness of the bed seemed to echo the growing distance between them. It wasn't merely about him not being there; it was the silence, the shared moments turning sparse, the unanswered calls stacking up like forgotten messages.
Rising from her bed, the solitude echoed in her movements, pressing heavily against her. The apartment, once a haven of shared laughter and soft whispers, now seemed to stand still with the sound of her own isolation. She longed for the days when Joe's laughter would effortlessly fill the space, making everything seem just perfect. Those memories now felt like they belonged to someone else's story. They remained a couple, at least in name, but their connection had dwindled to mere coexistence. As if they were only roommates who merely tolerated each other's presence.
As Taylor placed her feet on the cold floor and stood, stretching in an attempt to ease up the gloom that enveloped her. She was surrounded by relics of better times—photos, gifts, and various mementos that seemed more like echoes of a past era.
Approaching the window, she drew back the curtains, hoping the influx of light would scatter the shadows nesting in her heart. Yet, the daylight only seemed to accentuate the void within the once-vibrant apartment. She glanced at her phone, caught between hope and resignation, longing for a sign from Joe. But the screen remained unlit, as silent as the space around her.
Taking a deep breath, Taylor turned from the window, steeling herself to face the day despite the melancholy that weighed down her spirit, as palpable as the cloud-covered sky overhead. She recognized the need to navigate through this emotional distance, to either close the gap that had formed between them or to find a way to exist within it. For the moment, though, her heart ached with his absence, a relentless reminder of what once was, as unavoidable as it was painful.
She walked over to his nightstand, a familiar routine by now, and found a note waiting for her, just like on so many other days.
"Gone to a shoot. Will be back late. X"
