Taylor was having the time of her life, hanging out with Ava and her bandmates in the cozy living room of Ava's apartment. Preston, Kyle, and Ron had been entertaining her with hilarious stories of their adventures on the road, and Taylor found herself laughing more than she had in months.
"And then," Kyle said, barely containing his laughter, "Ava walks up to the bouncer, looks him dead in the eye, and says 'Don't you know who I am?' The poor guy looked like he was about to wet himself! I got so much second hand cringe from that."
The room erupted in laughter, and even Ava, who was usually too cool for self-deprecation, cracked a smile. "In my defense," she said, holding up her hands, "I was very drunk and very convinced of my own importance."
"Yeah, and how did that work out for you?" Ron teased, elbowing Ava in the ribs.
"Well, we didn't get into the club, but I did get a lovely mug shot out of the experience," Ava grinned, taking a sip of her beer.
Taylor shook her head, still chuckling. "I can't believe you actually said that to a bouncer. That's some serious confidence."
Preston leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Oh, our Ava is full of confidence. A real casanova, this one."
Taylor raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "Is that so?" she asked, turning to Ava with a playful smile.
Ava, to Taylor's surprise, actually looked a little flustered. "Don't listen to him," she said, shooting Preston a warning look. "He's just talking out of his ass, as usual."
But Preston smirked in response. "Oh come on, Ave, don't be modest. You've got girls falling all over you everywhere we go. It's like watching a master at work."
Taylor felt a strange pang in her chest at the thought of Ava with other girls, but she pushed it aside. "Well, I can see why," she said, her voice a little lower than usual. "I mean, with that smile and those eyes, who could resist?"
Ava's head snapped up, her eyes locking with Taylor's. For a moment, the air between them crackled with electricity, and Taylor felt her heart skip a beat.
But then Kyle, oblivious to the charged moment, chimed in. "Yeah, Ava's got the looks, but it's her moves on the dancefloor that really seal the deal. You should see her in action, Taylor. It's like watching poetry in motion."
And just like that, the moment was broken. Ava tore her gaze away from Taylor's, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "Alright, alright, enough about my alleged 'moves'. Why don't we talk about something else, like how Ron still owes me twenty bucks from that bet last week?"
As the conversation moved on, Taylor found herself stealing glances at Ava, trying to reconcile the smooth-talking casanova her friends described with the suddenly shy and flustered girl sitting across from her.
It was a side of Ava she hadn't seen before, and Taylor had to admit, it was intriguing. Every time their eyes met, Taylor felt a jolt of something electric pass between them, and she wondered if Ava felt it too.
As the night wore on and the laughter and banter continued to flow, Taylor found herself drawn more and more to Ava's orbit. There was just something about her, a magnetism that Taylor couldn't quite put her finger on.
And when, at the end of the evening, Ava walked her to the door, her hand resting lightly on the small of Taylor's back, Taylor felt a flutter of excitement in her stomach.
"I had a really great time tonight," Ava said softly, her eyes searching Taylor's.
Taylor smiled, feeling suddenly shy under the intensity of Ava's gaze. "Me too," she murmured. "Your friends are great. And you're..." She trailed off, not quite sure how to finish the sentence.
Ava's lips quirked up in a half-smile. "I'm what?" she asked, her voice low and teasing.
Taylor swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly dry. "You're... something else," she managed, feeling a blush creep up her neck.
Ava's smile widened, and she leaned in closer, her breath ghosting over Taylor's ear. "You have no idea, Swift," she whispered, sending a shiver down Taylor's spine.
And then, with a final, heated look, Ava was gone, leaving Taylor alone on the doorstep, her heart racing and her mind spinning with possibilities.
As she made her way back to her own apartment, Taylor couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between her and Ava tonight. Something exciting and terrifying and altogether irresistible.
And despite her better judgment, Taylor found herself eager to see where this new path might lead her. With Ava by her side, she had a feeling it would be a wild ride.
When Taylor returned to the apartment, Joe was already asleep. She stood in the doorway of their bedroom, watching the steady rise and fall of his chest, and felt a pang of resentment. How could he sleep so peacefully when their relationship was crumbling around them?
Taylor sighed, running a hand through her hair. She knew it wasn't fair to blame Joe for everything. They had both played a part in the slow unraveling of their once-happy partnership. But still, she couldn't help but feel a sense of bitterness towards him, towards the life they had built together that now felt so suffocating.
Her dark thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of her phone. Taylor fished it out of her pocket, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Ava's name on the screen.
Ava: did you get home?
Taylor smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. It was such a simple question, but the fact that Ava had thought to ask made her feel cared for in a way she hadn't felt in a long time.
Taylor: I did, thank you. Really, for everything.
She hit send before she could second-guess herself, wondering if Ava would read between the lines.
Ava: of course, anytime. i had a lot of fun tonight.
Taylor: Me too. Your friends are great. And you're... well, like I said, you're something else.
She held her breath as she watched the typing bubble appear, disappear, and reappear again.
Ava: oh yeah? something good I hope ;)
Taylor felt a blush creep up her neck at the winky face. Ava was flirting with her, that much was clear. But there was a restraint to it, a sense that she was holding back.
Taylor: Definitely something good. I haven't laughed that much in... I don't even know how long.
Ava: well, stick with me doll, and you'll never stop laughing.
Taylor grinned, feeling giddy and light. She glanced over at Joe's sleeping form and felt a twinge of guilt. She knew she shouldn't be feeling this way about someone else, but she couldn't help it. Ava made her feel alive in a way Joe hadn't in a long time.
Her phone buzzed again, and Taylor looked down to see another message from Ava.
Ava: is he there?
Taylor swallowed hard, her fingers hovering over the screen. It was a simple question, but it felt loaded with meaning.
Taylor: Yeah, he's asleep.
She hit send and waited, her heart pounding in her ears.
Ava: i see. well, i don't want to keep you up. sweet dreams, taylor.
Taylor felt a pang of disappointment, even as she appreciated Ava's respect for her situation.
Taylor: Goodnight, Ava. See you tomorrow.
She put her phone away and slipped quietly into bed beside Joe, careful not to wake him. As she lay there in the darkness, staring up at the ceiling, Taylor's mind raced with thoughts of Ava.
She knew it was wrong, knew that she shouldn't be thinking about another girl while lying next to her boyfriend. But she couldn't help it. Ava had awakened something in her, something she thought had long been dormant.
Her core was throbbing with a need she knew she needed to satisfy - and she knew she wouldn't get that satisfaction from toe man asleep next to her. And as she drifted off to sleep, images of Ava's smile and the sound of her laughter dancing through her mind, Taylor knew that there was no going back.
