The Peaches of Immortality reside in the celestial realm, granting everlasting life to whoever ate them. Allowing mortals to live as long as the powerful otherworldly beings of the three realms. These peaches grow from sacred trees, which only produce fruit every few thousand years. Which explains why they're so desirable.

The idea of living forever, being able to watch the world change and distort itself over decades, centuries, millennia, is terrifying and staggering all at once. It was something that was so controversial, since no two people would feel the same way about it. It was so complicated, that you could understand fully.

What you couldn't understand though is why your friend decided to bite into a trophy version of one. You held the phone to your ear with your shoulder as you kept shopping, listening as Mei explained the whole story in detail.

"So he bit into the trophy in front of everybody?" You asked, grabbing a couple more peppers. You swore they got more expensive every week you bought them.

"Yeah! I don't get how you didn't hear about it till now." Mei laughed, while MK kept grumbling in the background. "It was projected on the Great Wall, how did you not see it?"

"I don't get out much, you know this." You said. "Besides, what matters is that you both won the race. Doesn't that outweigh biting a trophy by accident?"

"That's easy for you to say, you weren't the one who nearly chipped your tooth!" MK snapped as Mei kept giggling over him. It was honestly adorable how stupid the two of them were sometimes, you loved doing group calls with them.

"People are still talking about it online, it's already in the trending section and the race was only an hour ago!" You weren't surprised, the internet works fast. "I'm never going to live this down."

"It can't be that bad forever though, right? You'll be remembered as the first two people to win the race together instead of apart." You explained, noticing the fresh peaches on display. "Besides, even if you did make that mistake you're still the heroes of the city. I'm pretty sure they can overlook you making that mistake."

You grabbed some of the peaches as you walked towards the self-checkout line, giggling to yourself as MK groaned.

"I guess, but we did all of that to get an immortal peach!" He whined, making Mei laugh again. "Instead all we got was a dumb trophy!"

"Hey, that dumb trophy was what I spent months training for!" Mei snapped.

"Plus, why would they be giving out an actual immortal peach? Those things only grow in the celestial realm y'know. You didn't expect to actually get immortality from a street race competition did you?"

"I don't know, I just thought it would be fun to be immortal like Monkey King!"

"But you're MK, not Monkey King. You mean more to me than whether or not you'll live forever." You smiled as you started scanning your items. "You know that right?"

"Yeah..." He sighed, before mumbling. "I just really wanted that peach."

"Why don't I bring some over then?" You walked outside of the store. "They might not make you immortal but they're still delicious!"

"Alright, but it'll still be hard for me to eat. My teeth still hurt from the metal."

"Then you just need to be careful, maybe we can blend it into a smoothie or something. I have some leftover yogurt we can use." You blushed when you heard him laugh through the phone, nearly tripping over the sidewalk.

"Of course, that sounds great." He paused. "I like spending time with you any day. Besides, I think some smoothies would really make me feel better."

"I'll swing over to your apartment after I drop these groceries back home, since it's not too far from here."
