Jennifer Jones... oh where to begin with this girl. You could either be insanely close with her, her worst enemy, or she doesn't even know you. No in between.Today was like no other. She woke up to the smell of alcohol and... blood?
After getting dressed she walked out of her room down the hall towards the sight of a broken mirror and her shit of a father sleeping on the couch.
walking into the kitchen, she sees a note. Picking it up, she reads it carefully.
Dear Jennifer,
Your father had one of his moments again and took it out on me. I made sure to keep him away from you. I have gone to the hospital with many cuts and shards of glass all over me. Your lunch money is on the counter, beside the place where you found this note. I will be okay so no need to worry, but be safe today and behave well.I love you lots, Mum :)
She hated her father. with everything in her body, she hated him for what he did to her mother and to her sometimes. The verbal and physical abuse was overwhelming, but she had to stay strong, for mum.
She looked at the clock, 7:29, just in time. She walks to the front door and walks onto her front porch waiting for Billy Showalter and his dog Rover to drop off the paper.
Her and billy had a close relationship. He's one of her best friends, and she's one of his. JJ has always been honest with him about her family life, which has caused Billy to always remind her that she is always welcome at his house.
She finally caught sight of him and Rover coming up her street.
"Hey Jennie!" He yelled to her as she waved back while catching the paper he threw to her.
"I'll see you later, yea?" She called out as he nodding while responding with an "of course" before riding off.
She smiled to herself before checking the time. 7:36. Shit. Robin will be here to walk her to school any second.
She quickly slid on her shoes before grabbing her lunch money, and backpack. Just as she reached the front door. to leave she heard a knock, and stood there was no other than Robin Arellano. The boy she's loved since the fourth grade, but known since the second.
Of course, he didn't know that though. And as far as it concerned her, he never would.
"Good morning, Jayj" Robin said
"Morning Robin" She said tiredly and he could instantly tell what happened last night.
"Another incident?" He said referring to her parents.
"Yep" She said popping the "p" sound at the end
"I'm sorry Jayj, if there was anything I could do about it I would, but I-"
"Robin it's fine... I'm fine. You learn to deal with it after awhile" She spoke up interrupting him quickly so then he wouldn't feel bad
But this made the boy frown even more.
How could a girl so perfect, deal with so much pain.
"Anyway, less talk about me... how's math coming along with you? Did you work on it last night?" She asks hopefully so she could turn his F into a C+ at least.
"I worked on the easy questions... which was three, out of fifteen." He said disappointed in himself.
"hey, it's okay! i promise you'll get it eventually, but for now baby steps!"
He smiled at her, knowing that she was trying hard to make sure he knew everything would be alright, even though she can't promise that.
The pair eventually caught up with the Blake siblings.
"Morning Lovers!" Gwen Blake shouted
"Gwen!" JJ yelled at the young girl, scoldingly. "How many times do we have to tell you that we're just best friends?" Robin added, secretly wishing that they were more.
Gwen shook her head at the two adamant teens as she and JJ walked ahead of the two boys while they talked.
"So when are you gonna tell that Donna girl you like her?" Robin said out of the blue.
"What?!" Finney said shocked that Robin would even say that.
"Oh come on, Finney-Boy! Me and Jayj know that you got a fat old crush on her!" Robin teased, but little did he know what Finney would reply with.
"the same guy who can't tell his best friend since the second grade how he feels about her is giving me relationship advice? I'll pass" Finney reply with soft grin playing at his lips.
"I do not like JJ!" Robin defended
"I never said I was talking about JJ, did I? But you certainly were thinking about her" Finney said with another grin planted on his lips.
Jennifer said by to Gwen and Finney because they had science first, and then she started walking with Robin to Maths.
