Meher stepped out of the cab and peered up at the house in front of her. Thinking about how she would surprise her parents an excited smile appeared on her face.

But when she thought about the amount of stairs she would have to cover , her mood deflated just a bit. Cheering herself up, she sprinted inside her childhood home after an entire year.

Meher plopped herself on her bed after lunch, thinking about the delicacies she'll get to eat at dinner. Her parents came inside her room and took their seats.

They looked like they were contemplating something, and before she could ask what's bothering them, her mother started speaking,

" Kuchh din phle rishta aaya tha tumhare lie, chachu ke friend ka bhateeja hai, hum log ko to bohot achha lga wo.

Tumko bulaane hi waale the waapas ki tum khud chali aai, Wo log parso dekhne aaenge tumko."

Meher looked at her mother in disbelief,

" Mumma, what are you saying, mere se bina poochhe hi sab aapne decide kar lia. I told you ki mujhe abhi shaadi nahi karni hai. "

"Humesha tumne jo kaha humne wo kia, tumhari life ke saare decisions aaj tak tumne lie hai, hum dono ne aaj tak nahi roka.

2 saal pehle hi tumhari shaadi karaane waale the hum log. Par nahi karwaai na, kyu? Kyuki tumne bola that you need time and want to be stable in your career.

28 ki ho gayi ho tum aur achhi khaasi doctor bhi ban gyi ho ; ab aur time nahi hai, tumhaari baaki saari cousins ki shaadi ho gyi hai , sirf tum bachi ho.

Tumhari shaadi hogi tab Huda ki bhi hogi. "

"But mumma, please I don't want to get married, just give me one more year, please. Aap Huda ki shaadi krwa lei, aisa koi rule thode hi hai ki chhoti behen ki shaadi badi behen se pehle nahi ho sakti; please mumma"

"Enough, no more bargaining, ab jo hum log kahenge, wo tum karogi. Ab manmaani khatam tumhari"

Meher looked desperately at her dad " Abbu kuchh kahie na"

"Ye hum dono ka decision hai, Meher. Achha hoga agar tum humari baat sun lo"

And then both of them went out of the room leaving their distraught daughter.

Constructive criticism is always welcomed.
