Luffy sighed as he looked at the night sky from the figurehead. He couldn't figure out why he kept getting so mad at Misaki. Now, not only did he get mad at her, but he pissed her off so bad that she was nowhere to be seen for night watch. Misaki always hung out with him at night watch. He sighed again. As much as he would like to say he was fine with it, three simple words kept popping up in his head. I miss her.
He wished he could do something to show her he was sorry. But he really didn't know what he could do. If she would just show up, maybe he would be able to figure it out. But he screwed that up when he fought with her that morning.
It wasn't like he meant to get that bent out of shape. Misaki was very charismatic and did have a tendency to be a little over friendly with people — but so did he! Hate to tell you, Captain, but she's definitely flirting. Luffy shook Zoro's words away. She can flirt and be friendly with whoever she wants. Misaki is free to make that decision.
He knew he was kidding himself. For one thing, she was flirting with him because they probably had a thing that night. For another, there was free and then there was what she was doing. But telling himself that was the only thing keeping him from screaming at the sea. He sighed heavily again. I miss her.
"Luffy?"
Luffy's head whipped around, peaking over the lion's mane to see Misaki. His heart started hammering in his chest as he grinned at her. He wasn't sure if he was supposed to, given how they left things, but he was just so damn happy that she came out at all. Even if she came out to yell at him, he was happy.
"Misaki! Hang on, I'll come down!" He said as he clumsily hopped over the lion's mane and jumped down to her.
She pursed her lips at him, her arms tightening around the blanket that she brought out with her. His heart skipped a beat as he realized that she did plan to stay out with him for the night. Heart, I don't know why you keep doing that, but knock it off! I have to function right now!
"I know I should be mad at you right now," She admitted reticently, "but I still wanted to sit out here."
"You totally should be mad." Luffy admitted, absentmindedly reaching out to her before snapping his hand back down to his side. "I was a jerk. I'm sorry."
"Well," she looked away before looking back at him, her eyes softening, "apology accepted. So long as you know that you were a jerk."
"A total jerk!" He agreed, nodding a little too aggressively.
Both of them rocked back on their heels nervously, then laughed at their synchronized movements. Luffy smiled apologetically at her."I really am sorry."
"Why did you pick such a big fight with me, Luffy?" She asked, her head tilting in the way that always made him blush.
"I... I don't know. I just got... annoyed I guess."
"Annoyed at what?"
Luffy shrugged, really unsure how to process it for himself, let alone explain it. Misaki shook her head and laughed.
"You're so weird." She giggled.
Something about the way the moonlight was hitting her eyes in that moment made Luffy's heart jump. He grinned at her, letting his feelings take charge.
"Hey M'?"
"Yes?"
"Do you wanna sit on the Captain's Seat?" He said, grinning ear to ear.
