You slowly opened your eyes, the sterile scent of the hospital room filling your nostrils. The soft beeping of monitors provided a steady rhythm to the otherwise quiet atmosphere. Blinking groggily, you took in your surroundings, the memories of how you ended up here slowly piecing themselves together.
Your gaze landed on Mikey, his head tilted to the side as he slept soundly, his breaths even and steady. A small smile tugged at your lips at the sight of him, a sense of comfort washing over you in his presence.
But as you contemplated your next move, a mischievous thought crossed your mind. Without hesitation, you reached for Mikey's hand, which lay nearby, and lightly squeezed it, hoping to stir him from his slumber.
To your surprise, Mikey remained still, his eyes closed, oblivious to your attempts to wake him. Determined, you squeezed his hand a little harder, but still, there was no response.
"Mikey?" you whispered, your voice barely above a murmur, but there was no reaction from him.
You couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. Maybe it was best to let him sleep. But just as you were about to relent, a mischievous idea took hold of you.
With a mischievous glint in your eye, you leaned in closer, your lips just inches away from his ear. "Mikey," you whispered again, this time a bit louder, but still, there was no response.
Deciding to take matters into your own hands, quite literally, you gently squeezed Mikey's hand once more, a little harder this time. And to your surprise, his eyes slowly fluttered open, confusion evident in his gaze.
"Anuva-chin?" he mumbled sleepily, his voice thick with drowsiness as he blinked up at you.
You feigned sleep, keeping your eyes closed and your breathing steady, but you couldn't help the smile that tugged at your lips.
"Anuva-chin, you woke up?" he repeated, his tone becoming more urgent as he leaned in closer, his face hovering just inches from yours.
You counted down in your mind, anticipation building with each passing moment. And then, with a burst of courage, you sprang into action, attempting to stand up...
Only to have your face meet Mikey's in an unexpected collision. Your lips crashed together in a moment of sheer surprise, and for a brief second, time seemed to stand still as you stared at each other, cheeks flushing crimson.
You stumbled back, letting out a startled scream as you hid under the blanket, the embarrassment of the moment washing over you in waves.
Meanwhile, Mikey remained frozen in his place, his cheeks tinged with a deep shade of red, as he tried to process what had just happened.
You slowly emerged from under the blanket, Mikey's gaze fixed on you. "Uhh, I'm sorry," you stuttered out, feeling embarrassed.
Surprisingly, Mikey replied, "It's no problem. I like it." Bewildered, you looked at him, wondering what he meant. But before you could ask, Emma came running in, calling out your name excitedly.
She hugged you tightly, her excitement palpable as she exclaimed, "When did you wake up? Why didn't you tell me, Mikey?" But when she turned to look at him, he was already gone.
Confused, you blinked a few times, wondering what was going on.
Before you could say anything, Emma continued to hug you tightly, while you tried to wriggle out of her embrace, exclaiming, "Emma, you're going to kill me!" She finally let go, apologizing and biting her tongue.
But before you could catch your breath, she pulled out a bag of your favorite snacks, and your eyes lit up with joy. "Thanks, Emma," you said, feeling grateful for her thoughtfulness.
However, your brother's voice cut through the moment, and you felt a sudden knot of fear in your stomach. "You are so careless," he chided, scowling at you. You bit your lip nervously, wondering what he was going to say next. As he walked over to you, Emma exclaimed, "Ryo-nee-san??" Your brother smiled at her, ruffling her hair playfully, and you couldn't help but pout at the unfair treatment.
"Oh, just if you talk to me like that too..." you muttered, slumping your face down.
He looked concerned and asked, "How did you get into this situation?" You then glanced at Emma and then back at your brother, recounting to him what had happened the previous night.
Your brother's expression turned to one of disappointment as he exclaimed, "All my teaching going to waste, you can't even defend yourself?" As you gasped and replied "Don't say that to me! I was protecting her, and I did defeat all those menaces to society."
Your brother stood up, slightly smiling, and ruffled your hair, saying "Good job." He then walked out of the room, leaving you feeling proud of yourself.
As you looked at the snacks on the bedside table, you wasted no time in filling your mouth with them. However, Emma warned you to eat slowly and said that she had to leave for some work. You were left alone in the room, feeling bored and staring at the ceiling.
Just then, the doctor entered the room and asked, "How are you feeling?"
You replied, "Great. Can I go home now?" The doctor sighed and said, "No, you just woke up. Even if you're feeling good, you need to stay here for at least two more days, or else the wound might open up." He then stood up and left the room, leaving you groaning and frustrated.
Feeling a mix of disappointment and resignation, you settled back against the pillows, resigning yourself to another couple of days in the hospital. You glanced at the window, longing for the familiar comforts of home.
The room felt stifling, and you yearned for fresh air and the familiar sights and sounds of your own space.
Emma's departure left you feeling a twinge of loneliness, despite the bustle of hospital staff outside your door. You missed her cheerful presence and the distraction she provided from the monotony of hospital life.
As the hours dragged on, you found yourself drifting in and out of sleep, the beeping of machines and distant chatter serving as a lullaby of sorts. Despite your best efforts to stay awake and alert, the comfort of the hospital bed and the weariness of your body conspired to pull you into slumber.
