The crisp, cool air from the return of the autumn season brought along the annual Halloween spirit. October 31st was a week away, and Melinda treated it not as the anniversary of her parent's death but as a holiday full of tricks and treats. She loved Halloween, it was always her favorite holiday, even before knowing she was a witch.

October had flown by briskly for Melinda and her friends. They spent their days socializing, studying, flying on their broomsticks, snickering at Lockhart, and making fun of the way he spoke. It was the happiest Melinda had ever been, and with Halloween steadily approaching, it only aided in her cheerfulness as she rushed to put together a costume.

The Slytherin girls had been conversing in a room in a high tower and left the windows wide open to allow in the cold, fall air, preparing for the event. The tower had once been claimed as Anastasia's workshop but had now been taken over by the younger children.

Melinda tried on many outfits, changing swiftly between each one with a simple spell, and modeled them for her friends. The other girls shook their heads 'no', or gave a nod 'yes' to each outfit she tried. Dahlia had spare papers scattered at her feet—sketches Anastasia had made of costume ideas and deemed atrocious—but she had yet to decide on one of them.

Aurelia provided little input to the fashion show besides her simple nods and grimaces when an outfit was less than attractive. Instead, she leaned her head out of the window and watched the ongoing Quidditch practice in awe. The sun was setting behind dense clouds, painting the room in the golden light, and blinding Aurelia as she closely studied the players. It was the Gryffindor team who had permission to practice this time, as the Slytherin team had gotten into a habit of cunningly stealing the field from them.

The team playing did not bother Aurelia, for she only cared about the thrill of a game.

"Elli, are you even paying attention?" Melinda spoke with her hands on her hips. She had now changed into a color outfit with frills and a round red nose.

Aurelia turned to face her friend and flinched at her drastic change in attire. "I don't know. Honk your nose to keep my attention." She smirked.

Melinda rolled her eyes and quickly changed out of the outfit, opting for her school robes instead. "This is useless!" She exclaimed, letting herself fall to the ground next to Dahlia. "I'll never find a good costume in time." She pouted.

"We still have a whole week," Dahlia stated cheerfully. "Don't lose hope! Stas is still working on ideas."

Anastasia frowned in response. "I'll surely start making progress soon." She muttered to herself.

Aurelia turned back to the quidditch team, feeling somber once again. "Ever since Draco was appointed Slytherin Seeker I've been so jealous. I could be better than that snot-nosed brat! I know it." She frowned, looking towards Anastasia. "No offense, Stas."
