Halloween had finally arrived, and Melinda let out a sigh of relief as she awoke, feeling the thrill of anticipation wash over her. The long wait was finally over, and she grinned as she felt the festive spirit tingling in the air.
That morning after rushing the other girls to get out of bed—and barging into Anastasia's dorm for the big reveal—Melinda and Dahlia tried on their costumes for the very first time.
As they looked at themselves in the mirror in their dorm, they couldn't take their eyes off the sparkling, dazzling dresses.
"Oh, my..." Melinda breathed out. "We look—"
"—Incredible." Dahlia finished.
The costumes were extraordinary.
The Mermaid skirt was an ombre array of colors, fading from dark sea blue to a teal coral glow. It was bedazzled with bright seashells and pearls that were specifically dyed to glow in the dark. The alluring glow-in-the-dark accessories would be lighting up the wizards' path later that evening when the sun set beyond the horizon and engulfed Hogwarts in darkness. The top of the dress fell off her shoulders delicately, showing her collarbone and shoulders, which had been decorated with bright glitter. It faded from a light clear-water blue into the deep sea blue which began at the bottom of the seashell belt she wore loosely. Her necklace was made of multiple different kinds of seashells: different colors, sizes, and shapes, all made into one extravagant accessory.
The swan dress was heavenly. It was stunningly white, laced with plenty of gems and diamonds around the torso, and topped off with real swan feathers stitched into the fabric. They were soft and fluffy to the touch, and the skirt was fully made of them. Her sleeves were off the shoulder and lined with gems that began at the torso and went all the way to her wrists. At the end of the sleeves were the same swan feathers sprayed out onto her hands. She wore jewel-bedazzled tights and a bright white gem around her neck. And on her feet, were her pride and joy, ice-skates.
The outfits were an original, all of the pieces, the fabrics, the gems, the pearls, and the seashells, were picked out by Anastasia and sewed skillfully, and gracefully into the fabric. Only the credit for the dye potions could be awarded to Dahlia. No witch or wizard in the world had the expertise and dexterity that Anastasia Malfoy possessed, the trio knew that now.
"What kind of potions did you brew for these outfits, Lia?" Aurelia blushed as she stared at her friend's beguiling attire.
"Nothing out of the ordinary," Dahlia said. "Simple dye potions. How should I do my hair?" She turned to ask Anastasia, who the girls now deemed a true expert in beauty tips and fashion advice.
Anastasia grabbed her wand to switch up Dahlia's hairstyle. "Straight?" She flattened her usual curls.
"No, keep the curls, I love them!" Aurelia begged.
