When I awoke, the curtains were now pushed to either side as the sun greeted my pale skin and my unadjusted eyes. I squirmed and stretched before feeling an ache in my head. Suddenly, the events of the night before made me blush and wish death. But I thought I could possibly escape the sight of Vincent and never see him again and viola, mission accomplished-but this did not happen. As I rose from the couch and motioned toward the door, I saw him chuckle at my attempt to sneak.

"After all that, you are going to leave without so much as an apology or goodbye?"

"I'm sorry." I said avoiding eye contact.

"Don't be. The thing is...if you wanted to see me naked...all you had to do was ask..." He said with a permanent grin.

"I thought I left my phone in there...it's why I was desperate to get in..."

"So you could leave? Call a cab or your brother?"

"No. Maybe..." I said as I thought he could see directly through me.

"What is it with you Adelaide?" This question took me back as I was unsure how to answer. So I remained quiet as I stayed near the door. "You come into my life, I save your life, you try to see me naked and yet we are back in this position of awkwardness...I want you comfortable around me..."

"I hardly know you-"

"It's best that way..."

"What does that even mean? Are you a serial killer? Oh God...are you?"

He let out a wail of a chuckle before standing and moving toward me. "Do you think you'd still be alive if I were?"

"Or are you going to take my virginity?"

He paused. All attention and humor was shot as if the moment just spoke of never existed. "Underage and a virgin?" He began to pace before leaning against the chair. His eyes peeked through his long bangs as he seemed to analyze me as I stood. "I thought you were just a prude..." He sucked on his bottom lip for a split second before releasing it and causing a loud smacking sound. "I think I should take you home." He said as he pushed past me and walked to the elevator, not talking to me for a moment. His eyes stayed straight ahead as we made our way to the lobby and out to another car. This one was higher from the ground and white in color-but luxurious nonetheless. He opened the door and tipped the valet handsomely again before squirming in next to me. But he seemed distant now almost as if the car length had been the distance of a football field. I decided to try to break the raw ice.

"Why do you tip the valet so much?"

"I don't like giving to charities as most of their money is for machines that give the cancers they are trying to avoid or stop. I feel it is better to give it to people in need." He paused before looking at his phone to see the time. "He is a single dad whose wife left him for a CEO of a rival company of mine. He used to reject the money before I threatened to have him fired if he didn't take it. I knew he needed the job and give it to him each time I see him. That way he doesn't have to stress about finances and can settle down with a pretty girl one of these days..."

"And you? Will you ever settle down?"

"I'm not the kind to settle. Never really had anything stable..."

I suppose the silence lasted longer than I thought as we already reached my apartment. "How did you know where I lived?" I asked as the words came out faster than I could manage.

"Your brother called last night. I answered so he knew everything was alright. I told him you hit your head and were resting."

"Oh..." Great...what was he going to think about me staying out all night with a stranger? I really did not want to go into that apartment. "Thanks for the ride."

His breath hitched as I thanked him. As I turned in the car to scoot out, he took a hold of my arm. "Adelaide...I want to see you again..."

"I thought you didn't do stable..."

"I'm not proposing...but come to the car event. I promise it is not about mechanics and electronic conversation...at least...not all of it."

"I can't. I have to work...I thank you for everything-truly...but-"

"You don't understand Miss Gerharrd. I don't take no for an answer. If it were up to me, I would take you over my shoulder and force you." It was as if his sentence wanted to prolong but ceased to cause a comfortable space. "I am beginning to think you find me...harsh...unfriendly..."

"You did accuse me of trying to see you naked-"

He smirked. "Fine. I'll pretend to believe your story...But Adelaide...I would much like it if you would accompany me to my job party..."

"I feel like you aren't really the party type..."

"You are beginning to make assumptions based on a day of knowing one another. If I were to do that...as I did...I would have thought you were a prude with a bad job and little knowledge of your effect on people..."

"What?" I said trying not to sound like a ditz.

"Just give me chance to show you my world. I think you would fit in..."

"I don't want to..."

"What?"

"Embarrass you..." I said in all honesty. A handsome and successful man to show up at a gala event with a poor virginal waitress...how pathetic. I would feel like a charity case...I couldn't bring myself to accept.

"You could never. Although you are quite young...you have more class and grace than any woman I have ever met. I admire that, as well as your innocence, but as I said I will not take no for an answer and will not give up." He took my hand up to his lips before kissing the skin. It sent a wave of chills in my body as I desired the feeling of his lips on mine. I had been kissed before, but never a butterfly firework sparks flying kiss.

I removed myself completely from the car and entered the apartment without turning back and noted how the apartment door was unlocked and the apartment was trashed. It was clear there had been a party and some visitors lingered on the couches, floor, and my bed. I really needed my own place...But as I took a step toward the bathroom, Alex's door swung open.

"Where in the hell were you?" he asked as he yawned. "What is his name?"

"I need to get ready for school." I said in all honesty. "Please, I'll explain later." I lied. I had no intention to explain my vacant presence. I did intend on prolonging the excuses until the question would stop being asked.

"You should have him over for dinner!" Carly said in the back of the room with a blanket covering her naked torso. I rolled my eyes before going into the bathroom. I could not look at even my shower without blushing. Showers would be forever changed... I then made my way to work...and a familiar car caught my eye. A red small luxury car that was parked right out front. My heart began to race. Oh Lord...he was here...and he truly didn't take no for an answer....
