The harsh sunlight seemed to enjoy waking me when I was not ready. But I found a sleeping Chase to be across me and slowly but surely removed myself from the couch before investigating. I was beginning to see that I liked to snoop. Maybe I was in the wrong major...
I began in the "art" room and saw easels with various paintings on them before seeing a section of a girl. Long dark hair and piercing eyes but she was always hidden. The next room was the laundry and pantry section in which I discovered he was obsessed with macaroni and cheese as well as instant noodles and tomato soup since that was all he had in there. He also had a box of old cat liter as dust was well formed on the box. The room at the right was his office. Filing cabinets with student's names and a large old mac computer sitting off to the side. I noted how each detail was different than Vincent. Chase was more chaotic, not as well organized and for once, it felt nice.
I made my way out to find the kitchen and got a glass of water. The cold wetness that was the drink slid down better than any alcohol I had consumed the last few weeks. I noticed another door passed the kitchen and saw it was his bedroom that lead to a balcony that hung over the other apartments. I took the water and finished it before setting the glass on the rim and looking out at the city. Home. I sighed at the though once more. How could I ever leave it? I didn't enjoy New York, never as much as Ohio. Plain, my home, Ohio.
I turned back to find him standing in the sliding doors. His hair was messy and his clothes were crumpled but I enjoyed seeing him in this state. Not the uptight professor he usually was.
"If you want I can take you home now."
"After spending the night together, you don't even offer breakfast? I thought those who were hopeless romantics would at least offer a girl pancakes after spending the night together and sleeping in such close quarters..." I said teasing before turning back around. He came on the side of me and just analyzed me. I realized I had smeared makeup, messy hair, and probably bad morning breath. But he didn't care. In fact, he seemed to admire it.
"I only have waffles..."
I gasped as if I was just told a scandalous situation which made him laugh. "You are not American!" I said loudly before stomping back in. I beat him to the kitchen before he pulled out a waffle box from the freezer.
"Are these alright?"
"I guess..." I said with a sigh.
As we enjoyed the humorous moment together, he got a knock on his door before he instructed for me to go into the bathroom. I did as requested and overheard their conversation. It was between him and a girl that sounded around my age.
"Here's your briefcase. You left it at my place last weekend. Speaking of which, can we squeeze in a session now?"
"I actually have company...my sister..."
"You have a sister?" Her voice instantly sounded like nails on a chalkboard. The whiny adolescent voice of an immature teen.
"Yep. She doesn't like company. I'll see you in class." He said quick as the door shut and he came toward the bathroom before I gave him a disapproving look.
"You know, sleeping with your students never works out...for anyone..." I shot as I took my shoes and went to leave.
"It's not like that. Her father is one of the richest investors in the college and his daughter wanted me to tutor her..."
"It's English..."
"That's what I said, but he insisted. I must have left the briefcase and I'm sorry if you think something else."
