Payten

If there was one thing Payten didn't expect, it was finding out that she was pregnant with her husband's baby on the day of his funeral. She stood in the bathroom, pacing back and forth, her fingers in her mouth as she chewed on her fingernails.

She went back to the counter and picked up the test again, making sure she read it right the first time. 'Pregnant'. Payten set the test back down and turned around leaning back against the counter.

There was no way she was going to tell anybody, not until she went to the doctor and found out how far along she was. But the one person she couldn't keep secrets from was sitting on her couch, waiting for her to watch a movie.

Payten thought over the many reasons to not tell him, but ultimately, she knew she was going to need support. With her parents on a cruise somewhere in the middle of the ocean, Adam was the only one she really trusted to tell.

Payten pocketed the pregnancy test, and walked out of the bathroom. She took a few calming breaths before walking out into the living room and sitting on the couch.

"Okay so I narrowed it down to one of the Grownups movies or American Pie, since they are both hilariously funny." Adam spoke as Payten walked around and sat down on the couch.

Payten looked at the floor, then up at the tv, trying to pretend that everything was normal. Nobody needed to know about this right? She could keep it a secret from everyone until obviously she couldn't hide it anymore. But her best friend sat not even 3 feet away, and she couldn't keep anything from him, ever.

"I think we should watch-" Adam started but Payten cut him off.

"I'm pregnant." She spoke softly but it was still loud enough that he heard her. He turned his whole body to look at her. "I just found out."

"Oh, Payten..." Adam whispered and reached out for her. She didn't hesitate to crawl into his arms, looking for some sort of security in this really fucked up situation. "It's gonna be okay." He spoke as he wrapped his arms around her, putting a hand on her head. She started to cry, and then (even though he'd never admit to anyone else but her), he began to cry with her.
