Payten

Payten drew in a shaky breath as she pulled into the Larsons driveway. It was a long driveway up to their multi-million dollar house, and every time she had come here with Alek, she felt like an outsider.

It had been two weeks since the ultrasound, and she decided that today would be the day she told them that she was pregnant. When she said that she would swing by for a coffee with them, they waved it off and insisted she have lunch with them instead.

She knew it would be an awkward conversation. How many times has this specific situation happened to someone?

She went over what she could say in her head and as she pulled up to the house, her brain and its words melted away. She wished Adam could've been here for support but she knew that it would be more of a private moment, and told him that she'd be okay without him.

She put her car in park, drawing in a deep breath before grabbing the keys, an ultrasound picture, and her phone and getting out. She had put on a pair of jeans and a nice oversized shirt.

When she woke up this morning, and looked at herself in the mirror, she had noticed the smallest of a bump starting to appear, and she almost started crying.

She walked up the steps, and waited a moment in front of the door before ringing the doorbell. She heard the sound of doorbell echoing throughout the house.

She waited a few more seconds before th front door finally opened, and Mrs. Larson greeted her.

"Oh Payten hello!" Mrs. Larson, or Althea, stepped out and wrapped her arms around Payten. She held on for a few seconds before letting go and taking a step back. "It's so good to see you."

"Same to you." Payten spoke nervously, and then follows Althea inside. They walked down the long corridor, and then made a quick turn into the small dining room.

She observed Mr. Larson, or Rhett, sitting at the head of the table, with their other son, Aleksanders brother Beckham, sitting beside him. Althea sat at the other end of the table, and Payten sat down across from Beck.
