I opened my eyes and gasped. Water spilled out of my mouth. I coughed.
"Is she alive?" said a voice.
"I thought she was a goner...," said another voice. My vision was pixelated, and the sunlight wasn't helping. I had a weird taste in my mouth, but not a watery taste. I burst into tears.
"KAYLIE!" yelled a voice. This voice was familiar. I was humiliated and terrified. Ashly ran over to me. I saw her push a dark figure out from over me. Did someone... GIVE ME CPR?! That was of course the least of my worries, but at that moment in time, it felt like that was where all my worries were at.
"I thought you died!" yelled Ashly. I could hear her voice breaking. She really cared. She got down on her knees and hugged me. I hugged her back of course. I forced myself to stop crying. I was so humiliated. I saw so many dark figures towering over me. A tall one in particular. It was Alex. I let go of Ashly and sniffled. I looked down at the floor.
"Can I... can I have a towel...?" I said, looking up at her. I didn't know what else to say. I had almost drowned in my best friend's pool doing something I didn't want to do! All because of a boy. I stood to my feet.
"I... I'm fine everybody." I said, sniffling. Someone wrapped a towel around me. I looked back and saw Ashly. All the dark figures became clear. I saw Paiten, Melonie, Ashly, Kai and Alex. Alex came up to me.
"Are you alright...?" he said. He looked down at me. But this time I felt something different. It felt like he actually cared for once. Which was weird... I thought he had always cared about me. But this weird feeling told me otherwise.
"Come on, let's go inside, we have some... things to discuss,". Ashly put her hand at the back of my waist and led me inside. I looked down at the floor as she led me through the door. I sat down on the couch.
"Who saved my life?" I asked. I needed to know.
"What?" said Ashly. She sounded confused but I didn't care.
"Who gave me CPR? Please tell me you didn't let Kai give me mouth to mouth!" I spoke. Ashly just sighed and looked at me with her arms crossed and her eyes focused on the ground beneath her.
"I couldn't stop him from doing it. I would've done it myself but... I would've done it myself but... he insisted..." said Ashly, her eyes still focused on the ground.
"WHO ASHLY?" I yelled."Alex did it." she said. She looked disappointed. But I was quite the opposite. I stood up and immediately and ran outside. I felt my soggy clothes drag me down as I ran towards Alex. He saw me and looked at me as I ran towards him. I didn't know what I would do. Hug him? Thank him? KISS HIM? I had no idea. I ran up to him and stood in front of him, standing up with my towel around me. I could feel wet stands of hair stuck to the side of my face. He looked down at me.
"You..." I look down at the ground.
"You saved my life..." I said, looking back up at him. He starred down at me as if he was embarrassed. I at least expected a smile. But no.
"Yeah... no one else was willing too so..." he said, looking everywhere except my eyes. I leaned a little bit forward and to the side, trying to look at him.
"What's wrong...?" I spoke. I was confused.
"I don't know..." he said, looking at me. I had so many things going through my mind, and for once, Alex wasn't one of them. I looked down at the floor.
"Well, you're alive." said Alex. I looked up at him. I couldn't tell whether he was being genuine or trying to start a conversation after he practically saved my life.
"Yeah..." I chuckled softly. I continued.
"I know,". I didn't know what to say or expect next. But what happened, was NOT expected. I would normally think out hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of scenarios when in this type of situation. But the one time I didn't think out any scenarios, things got wild. Alex grabbed out his phone. My immediate thought was that the conversation was too awkward, so he avoided it by going on his phone. But instead...
"Maybe we can hang out some time? Considering you kinda owe me your life." he chuckled. I looked at him. I had been waiting for this moment my entire life, but I wasn't as excited as I thought I would be.
"Owe you my life...?" I spoke. Alex chuckled softly and looked up with his hands on his hips. Then he looked at me as he stopped chuckling.
"Well... not like that. Just... hanging out?" he said, shrugging slightly.
"Yeah... sure." I said, looking up at him. Alex smiled and shrugged yet again.
"Cool. I guess we'll meet again on Monday, Kaylie." then he walked off. I stood there, still starring at the position his face used to be. Although it was unusual, I loved hearing him say my name. I smiled. I looked at him as he walked away. Then I saw Ashly. My eyes tore off Alex and looked at Ashly. She looked mildly disappointed. I didn't care if she was. She was just jealous that she failed to take Alex away from me.
