He stood there for a while and watched Nikola, lost in thought. He came to his conclusions and even though she was here in front of him, alive and real in the depths of his thoughts, she was... eliminated.
"If you want to do your girlfriend a favor, you should go in over there, there should something to eat down the hall, but be careful, it's just swarming with these creeps," advised the Officer. "What's your name?" Leon asked instead of answering. "Marvin Branagh," he answered, holding out his hand. He shook her. "Leon S. Kennedy"; he also introduced himself.
"I'm very pleased, do you work here?" Marvin asked and looked at his uniform. "I was supposed to start here and then the whole thing broke out"; he also lied to Marvin. "I see, it's a shame," he replied and sat down next to Nikola, groaning. Then Leon saw it. "You are wounded," he replied, stunned. "It's been days..." Marvin said. "I got attacked by a mass of those things while trying to grab the food I just told you about, my buddy, David, he got caught, I didn't. Just a pretty big chunk of skin and flesh of me got caught," he laughed and leaned on the bench. "Oh, I'm very sorry about your friend "-
"Oh, no problem, death follows you at every step here. He was already injured, if they hadn't caught him, I would have had to shoot him, in the end...; you know, they all turn, sooner or later- I'm just waiting here for death," explained Marvin. "Don't say that we'll find a way out of here," Leon said, patting the policeman's shoulder. "I'm glad you're so optimistic, Leon, but for me there's no way out, the way out of here is through."
Leon looked at him thoughtfully. "Yes, maybe you're right."
"Just to make this clear, I'm not sending you in there because I want you dead, I just think you could have more luck than a wouded old guy...", said Marvin, and he was right, Leon has been wondering why excacly hes supposed to go in there after Marvin almost died. And now hes telling him to go in after just saying how horrible it would be in the west-corridor. But Leon assumed that if he wanted to get out of here, he had to examinate the west-corridor anyways. Doesn't matter if its for the Sake of food or anything else. And Marvin was right. He had better chances than Marvin had. He had better chances since he stepped into this city. Marvis just a police officer and hes a trained Agend who works for the goverment, if someone had a chance it would've been him anyways. Mabye hes being a little hasty, but it was true. This wasn't an embellished version of reality but THE reality. "Right, no, I believe that you've got your reasons", he answered after a long silcene that he spent with thinking.
"Here, take this..." Marvin said and handed him a knife. Leon looked at it briefly and finally nodded to him. "I'm investigating the west corridor, maybe find something helpful for your wounds", he said and ran towards the taped-off electrical box. "Its too late for me", he heard Marvin say behind him, but didn't react anymore. Instead, he cut the tape and a shutter like the one under which Nikola had almost died, opened. It looked like a waiting room and there was some ammunition lying around, which Leon was happy to take. He pushed the door open behind a wooden privacy screen and shone his flashlight, which he had found in the emergency room, into the hallway.
He immediately realized that the windows were frighteningly close to the hallway and this on the first floor. He could imagine what would await him here. He narrowed his eyes briefly. Even if he was capable of fighting, those noises were actual hell; zombies hissing and screaming, banging on windows until they break in. Oh may god protect him.
He took another deep breath (his last?) and scanned the walls of the narrow gap with the shine of the flashlight.
Marvin was right, it looked awfully scary in here. It looked dangerous. Gentle rain pattered through the broken windows onto the floor and at the end of the hallway, that seemed to continue to the right, an officer was leaning against the wall.
Leon didn't even call for him because he was pretty sure he was dead. Its pretty unseless to call for ANYONE in this bloody mess, because chances are low that he will ever see a living soul ever again besides Nikola and Marvin, but honestly... Could Marvin even be counted anymore? He was already more dead than alive anyway. He was hanging by a thread and, to be honest, had more similarities with these things than with him or Nikola. And how long will Nikola live? He did not know. Maybe he was even the reason that the path for her soon ended. He sighed and hung his head.
He knew he was fooling himself. He knew it.
It was as if his superiors were sitting on his shoulder with an earpiece attached to his head, controlling his every thought. Who was he kidding? He won't kill her. He hated that all it took to make his solidarity waver was a pretty girl. Or a human in this hellish world. Yea, maybe thats it. He feels about her this way because shes human and he didnt see this for a long time. Or is he fooling himself again??
He almost had to kill her just to prove his solidarity to himself, because just now he didn't just disappoint the regulations of the "Secret Service"
Whatever, fuck it.
He slowly walked forward with his flashlight and his weapon drawn, each sound gnawing at his nerves like saws on steel cables. Finally, he was almost at the end of the hallway when something moved at the window. A kind of electric shock shot through his body and every nerve was tense. He was ready to kill one zombie, he was ready to kill ten and even a hundred if he had to. But hopefully it's just one for now.
A zombie hissed and hit the window. Leon shuddered in fear. "Fucking fiend," he hissed. The officer who was lying on the ground to his left had a bag with him. He carefully took it from his side and opened it. A pile of papers, wrapped bread, a drinking bottle and 'officer stuff'. Checkpot. Suddenly the glass shattered, and the zombie somersaulted into the hallway. "Holy shit," he breathed and ran back a few meters with the shoulder bag around his neck to build up distance. Then he pulled his gun out and aimed on the thing's head. He shot once, twice, three times, then the thing was on the ground. Leon stood rooted to the spot. The Police Station wasn't safe at all, the windows, they all just broke here and then- He didn't even want to imagine what happened THEN. If all those Zombis he dodged out there would break trough the windows into this hallawy there was no chance. We will never have enough bullets for all of them. Maybe just block the door? But here in this Hallway were 100% Things they needed.
He took a quick look into the hallway but decided not to enter because of a zombie hanging from the ceiling. He honestly had enough today. He quickly walked back through the door and into the brightly lit hall, which always made him almost collapse with relief. Yes, he was a specially trained agent, but he was still human, a human with fears.
