"In English, Papa!"
"Wanda, you pick."
"Lydia, put the book down. Its TV Night!"
"WANDA! LYDIA!"
"Are you ok? We have to get out of here."
"REPORT TO YOUR STATIONS IMMEDIATELY! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!"
The warmth of my brother's hand sliding into mine knocked me out of my unwelcome flashbacks, tethering me back to reality.
In reality, we were standing in a small, crumbling stone alcove while soldiers ran around the lab grabbing guns from their weapon racks.
"You're running hot," Pietro pointed out, letting go of my hand with a wince, "What are you thinking about?"
"The fact that this is bullshit," I lied, glancing at my brother disdainfully, "These soldiers are nothing more than a trigger finger. They aren't trained for this. We are, and we're stuck sitting in here so...what is the point of us?"
"Who gave the order to attack?" A familiar voice asked. I faced forward again, my eyes trailing our lord and master, Baron Von Strucker as he strode into the control room.
"Herr Strucker, its the Avengers." The radar specialist said, shooting out of his chair.
"They landed in the far woods," The guard commander reported, "The perimeter guard panicked."
The commander rushed into action again, leaving Strucker standing with Dr. List.
"They have to be after the scepter," Strucker concluded. I threw my hands up, rolling my eyes.
"No shit, Sherlock." I muttered, earning a pinch to the arm from Wanda.
"Can we hold them?" Strucker asked.
"They're the avengers." The Radar Specialist said dumbly.
"Deploy the rest of the tanks, concentrate fire on the weak ones. A hit may make them close ranks."
"You've got to be kidding!" I exclaimed. Strucker glanced over at us due to my outburst, and Wanda and Pietro both grabbed me, pulling me to the back of our alcove and standing in front of me.
"You have to calm down," Wanda warned, "You're going to get yourself into trouble."
"Getting in trouble with Strucker won't mean shit if the Avenger's shut us down," I shot back, "We can take them-"
"Look, I'm as impatient as you are," Pietro said, bouncing on the balls of his feet, "But you need to cool it. If Strucker gets the idea that you're a loose cannon, or worse, some stupid, immature kid with blood lust, he's going to bench you permanently."
"I would like to seem him try." I said, my fingertips glowing yellow.
"Everything we've accomplished..." I heard List say.
"But we're on the verge of our greatest breakthrough." Strucker reasoned.
"Then let's show them what we've accomplished. Send out the kids."
They both turned to look at us.
"Its too soon." Strucker said, turning back to List. I went to charge forward, but Wanda and Pietro both stopped me with a hand on my shoulder, each of them wincing as my elevated body heat burned their skin.
"Sorry." I growled, glaring daggers at Strucker.
"Its what they signed up for." List argued.
"My men can hold them."
