The plan was simple...at least for us. But I still wasn't convinced that Ultron was the end-all-be-all of world peace. Sure, he had clued us in on our role in his plan, but there was still a lot he had yet to divulge, and I was getting more on edge by the minute. Pietro and Wanda, on the other hand, didn't seem to be bothered by Ultron's secret motivation...at least, not outwardly.
We hit each stop quickly and efficiently, procuring whatever Ultron instructed. He was building something, that much was obvious...so every stop, every piece of the puzzle we gained, I would turn things over in my mind trying to figure out what that something could be. His complete lack of transparency didn't help matters. He'd claimed we'd nearly gathered everything we needed...we just needed to make one more stop...and illegal arms factory, run by a man named Ulysses Klaue.
We started by cutting the power. No matter how old we get, humans are still conditioned to be afraid of the dark. It's helpful as an intimidation tactic. The men on the floor began screaming in panic, most of them in languages that I couldn't recognize.
Pietro sped Wanda and I into Klaue's office, where he was looking around, pointing a handgun around corners. Pietro grabbed his gun from his hand and emptying the clip, lining up the bullets in a clean row on top of the man's desk.
He was a sweaty, very muscular man with curly hair, and he smiled at us with rotten teeth as we stood behind him on the other side of the room, in a line from tallest to shortest. I glared at him, in spite of my building anxiety that this plan wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
"Yeah. The enhanced," He said, slowly sinking into his desk chair, "Strucker's prized pupils."
He picked up a candy bowl from his desk, offering it to us.
"Do you want a Candy? Hmm?"
When none of us moved, he put the bowl down again, taking one for himself. For a surprise ambush, the man didn't seem that surprised to see us.
"I was sorry to hear about Strucker," He continued, his voice thick with an Australian accent, "But then, he knew what kind of world he was helping create. Human life...not a growth market."
We all shared a look, unsure of what exactly he was talking about.
"You didn't know?" He asked. "Is this your first time intimidating someone? I'm afraid I'm not that afraid."
"Everybody's afraid of something." Wanda said, taking a step forward.
"Cuttlefish," he said, pointing a finger at her, "Deep sea fish. They make lights, disco lights...to hypnosis their pray and then - I saw a documentary. Terrifying."
Pietro disappeared for a second, returning to his spot in a flash of blue energy, with a candy in his hand. The bowl spun on the desk from the momentum as he stood by cooly , unwrapping the sweet.
"So if you're going to fiddle with my brain, and make me see a giant cuttlefish- "
"I could melt your dick off instead, if you'd prefer." I said with a shrug, holding up a hand and igniting my fingers. He chuckled at this.
"-then I know you don't do business," he continued, "and I know you're not in charge...and I only deal it's the man in charge."
"That's a bit sexist." I said, smiling to myself as Ultron appeared in the window behind him.
He shoved a giant metal arm through the plate glass window, throwing Klaue onto the hard metal grating of the factory floor below.
"There is no man in charge." He said, putting one of his feet between Klaue's arm and his body so he could lean down close to his face. "Let's talk business."
