Samantha's POV
"You know I feel they are going to find him guilty," Kaylee said.
It was a rough day in court for our team. They found text messages in Jesse Booker's phone talking to his girlfriend about the hatred he had for his mother and used it as evidence.
The girlfriend was called to the witness stand. She was nervous and confused and kept stuttering. She started to cry when they started to put pressure on her. I felt sorry for both of them.
Jesse held his head down to avoid looking at her the whole time. The entire thing was heartbreaking.
When we got lunch break I saw Jesse Booker standing by himself. I have never had a conversation with him before even though we were around each other a lot. He just looked like a lost kid.
"I think the judge is confused but who knows. Everything is just pointing at him right now.
They need to find the murder weapon" I said.
"This case has me drinking too hard. I'm going for a drink later. You wah come?" Kaylee asked.
She was always inviting me out drinking and I have never gone. I only saw her as a coworker and[wanted it to remain that way.
"No, I can't. I promised my dad that I would cook for him," I lied.
"Alright, I will have a drink on your behalf" She said.
"Coo.l"
I was always the last to leave the office, even when I didn't have anything to do. I would just sit in the office and go through the notes to see if I missed anything. My bar exams were coming up in a few months and I didn't plan on failing on my first try.
Jesse Booker's case file was packed up in a bag and I was ready to leave the office. My father told me to drive the BMW because the Honda was being repaired. I felt like I wanted to be seen when I'm driving that car.
I told security I was leaving so he could closed up now. Some Tory Lanez would do me well now in the black beast. I had one song on repeat and I put my windows down and turned my music up, danced and sang my ass off in traffic.
My cravings were kicking so I stopped at Grill House to get a grilled chicken and a strawberry lemonade.
The waiter flirted with me and I flirted back so he could add extra chicken to my sandwich.
It worked.
When I got home I took a shower then got comfortable eating my food.
My phone rang and it was my dad. I hissed my teeth before I answered.
"Sammy, look upstairs in my office you see an envelope, drop it off at Gary Samuels house please. I'm in Montego Bay and won't be back until tomorrow,"he said.
Who?
Why was he alway leaving me alone in this house?
"Where do I find Gary Samuels daddy?" I asked.
"A fi him son was at the house the other night, me swear you know him." .
Look here nuh Jesus.
"Daddy I don't know him and I don't know where he lives," I said.
Plus I didn't want to go.
"They don't live far from us. They are off Bramwell, on Allen Street, gate 23. You can't miss it, they have two big lights on each side of the gates," he said.
Here war now.
"So daddy you can't drop it off when you come back?" I asked,
All me bright eeh. I knew better.
