Paige

1st person

We were outside the rock and roll hall of fame, nothing special, just some little event they were holding for us, by the time we had got off the bus I put my phone away.

Ever since Kate got my number, we've been texting nonstop, which probably isn't healthy with the idea that we have to play each other. But me and Caitlin have never had a problem, so it should be fine honestly.

Plus Kate is so sweet and kind.. I can't imagine not wanting to talk to her.

"Excited to see your lover girl?" I could hear the Croatian accent from behind me as Nika caught up to me.

"Shut up, it's not like that."I said punching her in the shoulder lightly

"Say what you wanna say, but I'm gonna go back to Connecticut a little bit richer, I just know it." Nika smirked as I just rolled my eyes. Even though Nika is right, I'll never just say it. What's the fun in that?

When we finally made it inside it was nice, nothing to special really, a few important people talked to us about how we've all changed the way woman's sports have been seen over the past few years (probably mainly talking about Caitlin but they'll never specifically say it's her)

I got bored and snuck off to the bathroom

I was in there for a while just scrolling through tik tok when I heard the door swing open.

"Oh, hey Paige!" I could recognize the voice almost instantly.

"Hey Kate how are you?" I smiled sticking my phone in my pocket

"Everything has been good, a lot better now that I've ran into you." Kate smiled as she looked at me

"I could say the same about running into you." I said as my eyes seemed to lock onto hers

We shared a conversation until we both had nothing to talk about. Then we were both silent back to sharing eye contact

In that moment, I think we both forgot about the event, the speakers, and the world outside. We leaned in and shared a passionate kiss.

My arms went around her neck as hers found my waist

When we finally pulled away, a shadow of doubt crossed Kate's face.

"Paige, we can't do this," she said, her voice trembling. "We have to play each other in the Final Four tomorrow."

I could feel my heart sink. "I know," I  said, my voice barely above a whisper. "But... I don't want to lose you."

With a heavy sigh, Kate stepped back. "I don't either, but we have to focus on our careers. We'll talk after the game, okay?"

I nodded slowly, As Kate turned to leave, I couldn't resist reaching out and taking her hand.

"I love you," I said softly.

Kate looked into my eyes, a flicker of emotion crossing her face. "I love you too," she replied before disappearing out the door.
