Dear Moon,

You disappear. The sun is blinding with its blazing shine; I'm overwhelmed. Its warmth is too much as it leaves brazen marks along my body. All day, it sits among the heavens on a throne of clouds, beating down upon its helplessly loyal subjects. The sun glowers at me with its insufferable rays as it greedily occupies the entire sky, as you share your glimmer with the rest of humanity. I can't help but long for your glow, cool on my skin as it persuades goosebumps to rise. My one and only wish is to trap your divine gleam in my thoracic cavity, so that I can be with you for eternity. I miss your light that makes its home in my chest at midnight, thrumming in my rib cage as I pulse with pure luminescence. Instead, my lungs burn as I choke on the scalding light that the searing ball of fire forces down my pharynx. Once the sun sinks beneath the horizon, my eyes search the darkening sky for your cosmic face only to realize that you never left.

Love,

Your Night Owl
