Cleona Hadley

When Monday came back around, Cleo found herself sitting by herself for lunch. Aubree was with Josiah because apparently they argued this weekend and were talking it out with each other somewhere else.

Cleo didn't care to spend lunch alone, but everyone was looking at her cause they weren't used to seeing her by herself.

She didn't have any 'friends' here besides Aubree. She had her acquaintances here and there but none she could chill with like Aubree.

She had a good view of everyone from where she was sitting. She could even see Gunner across the yard with his friends. The same ones that left him all by himself on Saturday night.

But it wasn't her business.

"Excuse me" Cleo looked up, a boy from one of her classes named Samir was trying to talk to her. They never spoke before so she was curious.

"Um yes?"

"Why you by yourself? Where's your lil friend at?"

"With her man, why?" Cleo questioned looking him up and down

"Nothing with her, I just wanna see what's up with you though"

"Huh?" He took it upon himself to sit down next to her

"I want your number" That caught her off guard...

"Why? I hardly know you"

"Because I want to get to know you. We sit by each other in class anyway"

He handed her his phone and hesitantly Cleo put her number in. She almost wanted to give him the wrong number on purpose but didn't.

"You wanna go over there with me and my friends? You look lonely"

Definitely not lonely.

"Do I know your friends?" Cleo asked

"You've probably seen them"

"Where are they at? Ya'll not behind the school or nothing though right?"

She was suspicious, but simultaneously she had to decipher between someone being weird and someone being nice. He was a bit of both.

"Nah we're over there"

She decided she'd give it a shot. If she thought something was off she'd go to the bathroom and never come back.

While walking over, she unsurprisingly noticed they were going over to Gunner's group. She immediately got annoyed, now she knew she would use the bathroom excuse.

The minute they got there everyone turned to look at her.

"I brought my friend over, this Cleondra" Nobody said anything, she felt so out of place.

"Why you bringing hoes around us bruh, keep that shit out our way" One tall guy randomly said

Embarrassment flushed through her body, a hoe was crazy.

"You don't gotta say shit like that she ain't no hoe. She doesn't even be around niggas, I just brought her over here to chill"

"You just saying that 'cause she's around or are you for real?" Cleo scoffed and her body went warm. She'd never been spoken about this way, especially by no guy.

"Yeah fuck this, I'm going to the bathroom, I'll be back"

No I wasn't.

Cleo stormed off to the bathroom taking many deep breaths in and out. She felt like she was losing her shit.

She already hasn't been happy lately, on top of that she's been stressed from school, now she just got embarrassed in front of everyone.

Cleo closed herself in a stall, she didn't like to accept the fact she had anxiety but she did. She also didn't like the fact she was secretly sensitive, but she was.

She liked to act like everything was okay and kept her guard up because she didn't like when things like this happened, her weak moments.

"I don't give a fuck" She sniffled wiping her tears.

The tardy bell rang, and now she was late for class, so she wasn't going. She'd rather not go at all than walk in late.

Cleo got herself together, washed her hands, and left the bathroom. She'd probably just walk down some hallways until this class was over.

If her mom wasn't so serious about her being in school she would call her to come pick her up, but that wouldn't happen.

"Why are you like everywhere all of a sudden? That's weird"

Cleo turned around, Gunner was standing behind her and he was mugging her

"What?"

"I keep seeing you. And don't act like you ain't been seeing me either cause we be looking each other dead in the eye"

"What's your point? You tryna say I'm following you?"

"No, I just thought it was weird" He shrugged and stuffed his hands in his hoodie pocket.

"Did you forget we go to the same school?"

"No," He said like it was obvious because it was.

"Okay well..."

He didn't say anything so after a few seconds she just continued walking. She saw him around but wasn't expecting to ever talk to him.

That was weird as fuck.

"Don't trip over them. They were just talking" School was out and Samir was following Cleo out of the school.

She was still mad at him though, she wasn't forgetting what happened that easily.

"But why would you bring me over there knowing they would say something like that? Who do they think are?"

"I don't know but I want us to get to know each other. I won't bring you back around them again I promise" She sighed

"We could talk but don't expect nothing. I'm not like that"

"So I could text you later when you get home?"

"Mhm yeah" he smiled and began walking to wherever he was going.

By now all she was looking forward to was a shower and a long nap, maybe even trying to beg her mom to let her stay home tomorrow if she offered to clean the house.

"Imma text you later alright?" Samir screamed back at her while walking over to his friend group.

Gunner was looking over at her again, this time she just rolled her eyes at him and turned away.

He's always the one looking at me first and then wanna say I'm everywhere.

"Yeah yeah okay" She yelled back before getting in the passenger seat of her mom's car.

"You got a little boyfriend finally"

"No, he just asked for my number. Not every guy I talk to means he's gonna be my boyfriend"

"Aww and he's cute, you should give him a shot" Her mom smiled at her.

Her mom didn't like how lonely she was, but Cleo didn't care.

"We're not on that mom, we're just talking"
