Into the Fire

It was a week before my first school festival, and boy was I really excited! Anzu was the school festival officer for Class 1-B, and she asked everyone to think of what our class should do for the festival. 

"I think we should do a haunted house!" said one of the students. 

"That's what Class 1-C is doing!" said another student. 

"What about making Yaki Soba?" asked a third. (YAKI SOBA = FRIED NOODLES). 

Then Katsuya stood up. "Guys listen to my idea!" he said. "Isn't the school festival about entertainment? I say we show some guts to get the audience away from the other classes! That's the reason why I vote for SEX APPEAL! It'll be called 'The Real High School Girl Cabaret'! All the girls in our class will dress-up in costumes to make all the guys fall to their knees, and —" 

The girls didn't like that idea. They just told Katsuya to be quiet, and drop dead. 

"Are there any other ideas?" asked Anzu. 

My classmates then started shouting out ideas like "Costume Contest", "Student Pro Wrestling", and "Takoyaki". (TAKOYAKI = OCTOPUS DUMPLINGS). Then Tomoya raised his hand. 

"What about you, Tomoya?" asked Anzu. 

"Gag Manga!" said Tomoya. 

All the students looked at him, and Tomoya knew that he should've stayed quiet. 

Anzu then wrote the ideas on the chalkboard. "Is this everything?" she asked. 

"Anything exciting we can do for the festival?" asked Katsuya. 

"Is there anyone who didn't give an idea?" asked Anzu. She then looked at me. "Do you have an idea Yugi?" 

I thought for a moment, then I said, "I think that we should do some carnival games, like the ones at an amusement park." 

Everyone loved that idea, even Katsuya. 

"Then we're all in for carnival games!" said Anzu. "Next we need to figure out what games we should do." 

Everyone then started calling out different games that we could do in the booth. We then decided on three games: Bluebeard's Attack, bottle toss, and a shooting gallery (Hiroto will bring his air rifle for that). And get this! Anzu managed to pull out the most popular spot in the School Festival Placement Lottery! 

With just three days until the festival, the preparations were in the final stretch, and everyone was working hard. My class went over the 50,000 yen budget, but we really wanted to make our booth the best for this festival. 

Inside the booth, I just got done with the Bluebeard mask. Katsuya was done with the barrel for the Bluebeard game too. 

"That looks great, Katsuya!" I said. "I never knew that you were good at building things." 

"Everyone does have at least one skill," said Anzu. 

"I have been making plastic models and garage kits for years!" said Katsuya. "Take a look!" He then opened the barrel, and climbed inside. He was the perfect size for the game.
