Kendra stared at the ceiling of her room in the posh, expensive looking prison. Earlier, she had attempted to stop the blix, Torina, who was holding her prisoner, from sucking the youth out of an unsuspecting victim. Now, she was trapped in her room until the following morning. It felt like she would never see daylight again. At least daylight that wasn't through the windows of the house where she was trapped with invisible bars and magical scent hounds. The paper airplanes didn't work, she wasn't really surprised. They were more of a petty attempt to annoy Torina than an actual attempt at escape. Her chest ached for Seth, her friends, her parents. They must think that she is dead at this point. Stingbulbs are only supposed to last a few days, right? It didn't really help anything to think like this, she had to meet with the Sphinx tomorrow morning. Every time she thought of the meeting hurtling ever closer, her stomach twisted, and she felt nauseous.
What could he possibly want? Information, probably, maybe something magically recharged. She promised herself that she wouldn't tell him shit. Nothing would force her to expose her secrets or any secrets kept by the Knights or her family.
Her train of thought was broken by a light knock on the door.
"Who is it?" Kendra called back
"Just us,"
Haden and Cody peeked through the door. Kendra forced a smile and pushed her anxious thoughts away for her new friends.
"I'm supposed to be locked in here until tomorrow," Kendra smiled
Haden cleared his throat, "We thought we ought to check on ya after your little outburst with the new guy."
"We told ya not to interfere," Cody grumbled
Haden continued, ignoring his friend, "I'm just glad to see that the old hag didn't steal away your youth."
Kendra smirked. "She wouldn't dare. Her boss would have her head. They need me."
"If you say so," Haden replied, "I was just worried she did something evil to you, but you are just a kid, and she at least has a little guilt."
Kendra nodded, "I should get to sleep, but thanks."
"Goodnight, Kendra."
"Goodnight, thank you."
As the old men left, Kendras' mind slipped back to Seth, her parents, Alyssa, Warren, and back to Seth. Over and over. Did her family figure out that the stingbulb wasn't her? Were they hurt? How much information did the stingbulb leak? Finally, she fell into a restless, uncomfortable sleep.
