Chapter 7- Spark of Jealousy

"She's prettier than you without spending thousands of money that you don't even own"

The nightmares didn't let Katherine sleep well. Before she knew it, she was getting ready for her first day in the new, expensive school. She wore her expensive uniform and got outside the huge Gaudioso mansion. Vanessa was sitting in a limo, which Katherine expected was owned by her cheater bastard "father". 

"Hope you had a bad night, peasant." Great way to start a morning. Vanessa slammed the door at Katherine's face. 

"VANESSA GAUDIOSO LET YOUR SISTER IN WITH YOU NOW" the bastard yelled from the balcony standing in a nightdress. 

Vanessa rolled her eyes and let Katherine in. The limo entered the school and Katherine was shocked to see the building and the surroundings. It was gigantic, with fountains, and huge sports fields. Vanessa got out of the car and immediately left Katherine alone in the middle of nowhere. 

Katherine walked in through the gold gate. There were new kids all over, some talking things out of lockers, and some talking. Suddenly Katherine felt like she didn't belong here.

A hand grabbed her shoulder and she was pushed back. She turned to see three girls standing in front of her, with stylish hair and makeup that said I am a bully. 

"Oh look who's here. A new farm girl."

"Where do you do your hair? a sparrow's nest?" 

"She's prettier than you without spending thousands of money that you don't even own, Mallory."

Katherine turned around to see Jake standing behind her, looking more handsome than yesterday. He grabbed her hand, and Katherine saw Mallory take a big gasp. He took a step forward and whispered something in Mallory's ear. "My day would be so much better if you'd just stay away from my eyes."

She started sobbing. "But Jake we dated for A YEAR."

But Jake left her standing, taking Katherine by her side.

"Thanks. I don't understand why everybody here is so...rude."

"But you and I aren't." 

Katherine looked at Jake and blushed. "I...I have class. Right now."

The next period was sports. There was a basketball girls competition, and it was compulsory for Ph. Ed. marks. Katherine and Mallory were picked into the blue team, and Vanessa was in the red team. All the other boys and girls cheered from outside the court. 

Vanessa always won the basketball MVP medal, since her dad was a well-known basketball player. She saw Jake on the side bench, and her adrenaline instantly boosted, but her anger increased when she saw that he was staring at her step-sister. 

The match started and Vanessa instantly scored a basket. The crowd remained calm as it was predictable enough. But then Katherine got the ball from outside and she scored a basket. The crowd went WILD. Then her team scored another. Vanessa looked at Jake's sly smile at the bench. Vanessa didn't know why, but she felt a spark of a dark fire in her heart. Am I jealous?  Why would I be jealous? He's just my friend...right?

That's when she saw the ball coming her way. She grabbed it. But her mind went to one thing. "Her eyes make me melt". She looked at Katherine.YOUR f*cking eyes. She threw the ball hard at Katherine's face, and it hit her directly at the nose. 

Katherine fell to the ground, and drops of blood poured from her nose. But Vanessa's satisfaction didn't last long. Her heart completely shattered, when she saw Jake run towards Katherine and pick her up. He ran straight towards the medical room. The P.E. teacher suspended the game for a few minutes break.

Katherine's nose didn't hurt but it was bleeding. Jake gently placed her on the bed, and the nurse did a few things with her nose, and left to get some more cotton. 

"My day's just been getting worse and worse. I hate myself." Katherine sat down on the bed and slouched. 

"Well...you did great at the game."

"F*ck the game, that was just luck. I want my old happy life back."

"You know what. I can make you feel better." Jake grabbed Katherine by the shoulders and moved his face close to hers. 

"Do you want to go out with me tomorrow?"

Katherine had just opened her mouth to speak, when she heard a voice from outside. 

"Jake, we need to talk."
