“I don’t know how to feel,” Natalia told Elijah, as she inspected her palm. “I don’t understand it. Isn't it against the rules to hurt your own mate?”
“Not necessarily,” Elijah said sadly. “It’s more against it. No one has ever done it before. Klaus is the first.”
“Why?” she found herself asking. “I’ve never done anything to him.”
“I know.”
He pulled Nat into a hug, holding onto her close. He almost felt his heart melt as he leaned her head on his chest. She was very calm and collected.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “We have other things to deal with, and here I am whining.”
Elijah just let out a small laugh, shaking his head at his mate. He didn’t feel like she should be saying sorry after everything that Klaus put her through.
“You deserve to let your feelings out.” He took her hands in his, and brought them to his lips.
He kissed both of her hands softly, making her blush. She playfully rolled her eyes and looked away blushing. Elijah chuckled and brought her onto his lap.
“Once all of this is over. . . I was wondering if you would travel the world with me?” he asked hopefully. She smiled brightly and nodded.
“I would love that.”
“Lovely–”
“GET OUT!” they suddenly heard a scream from downstairs. Natalia frowned at the voice.
“Is that Jenna?” she asked, but didn’t get an answer.
Elijah looked at her a little guilty. She rolled her eyes and sped down the stairs coming face to face with Jenna pointing a crossbow at Alaric.
“Jenna?” she asked, confused, while everyone else gathered around them. Alaric had his hands up in surrender.
“Jenna put the crossbow down, okay? It’s me,” he told them all.
“Prove it,” Natlia told him, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Okay, uh, first night you and I spent together, Jeremy walked in right when I was about to–” he said to Jenna, making her drop the crossbow.
