Have you ever felt so nervous that your heart started beating faster, your stomach started churning, your head started pounding and your palms become so clammy and sweaty?
That was exactly how I felt as Violet Marlitch, the Queen Bee of Hatton High, cornered me as she sneered at me.
"Why don't you look where you are going?" She hissed looking like she wanted to scratch my eyes out. To be fair, she was the one who bumped into me because she was busy tapping away furiously on the screen of her iPhone.
Of course, I would not dare say I was not wrong because that would only worsen the daily ordeals that I have to face.
"I-I'm sorry Violet." I said softly as she continued to glare at me. I wonder what crawled up her ass and died.
"Ugh! Just go kill yourself, freak!" She spat as she flipped her hair over her shoulder before stomping off, no doubt to go find her boyfriend and partner in crime, Trevor Mason. They are a match made in hell.
My eyes stung with unshed tears and I pulled myself off the wall and tried to steady my wobbling legs before I headed for the cafeteria.
My best friend, Sophia, was still stuck in the Biology lab finishing up her test which is why I was alone. If she had been present when Violet confronted me, she would retaliate. She often tells me that I need to start standing up for myself and facing my fears and I try really hard at times but it's to no avail.
I entered the cafeteria and headed for my table with my head hung low, somehow I believed that not showing my face would make me invisible somewhat and being invisible would lesson the amount of persons that see me as a target.
While sitting I looked around, probably searching for whether it be a paper ball or book that was hurled in my direction. These things happen daily so it is second nature for me to be overly cautious of my surroundings.
I slowly unwrapped my sandwich and took a bite as I looked around yet again, wondering when Sophia would show up to cheer me up somewhat.
The collective gasps of the students made my entire body stiffen. They were here and I found myself wanting to disappear or be transformed into an ant; anything to get away from there.
The jocks and cheerleaders strut into the cafeteria and walked over to their table which was actually four tables pushed together. The guys were laughing and slapping each other on the back while the girls checked their lipstick in their mirrors.
When I saw Sophia come through the door and approach the table I wanted to hug her so tightly she would probably suffer from a few fractures. I feel so much better when she is around.
"Hey girly." She said as she propped down next to me and grabbed my sandwich out of my hands.
"Yes, you may have some." I said shooting a mock glare in her direction. I liked the fact that I could be myself around her.
"Whatever." She said kicking me under the table as I hissed and narrowed my eyes at her while reaching out and grabbing back my sandwich.
"How was the test?" I asked as she pulled out her own lunch and I rolled my eyes; she is always eating my food.
"It sucked balls." She said gagging and I burst out laughing not realizing that I was quite loud and that I had drawn the attention of the Populars.
"Jazz, Violet and Trevor are heading this way." Sophia said glaring at the couple behind me but I refused to turn around; maybe some miracle would happen and they would disappear with a poof.
No, like every other day I was unlucky and I felt when my ponytail was yanked hard.
"Hey freak." Trevor said grinning at his girlfriend, who was the one holding my hair, while he sipped on his grape soda looking like a camel with ebola. Maybe I'm lying, okay, I am lying. He is handsome but he is also a jerk so that makes him ugly in my opinion.
"Uh-I-I." I stuttered causing them to laugh.
"Why don't you two go leap off a cliff together?" Sophia deadpanned and I thanked her mentally.
"Freak number two, please stop talking." Violet said in a patronizing tone as she rolled her eyes.
"Know what? We have places to be, we don't have time to waste." Trevor said as he turned to walk off but not before coming to dump all his grape soda all over my white jeans.
