I heard a small gasp, most likely from Sophia, before I looked up at Trevor. He was wearing his triumphant smirk that any girl would swoon over, but all I could think about was my poor white jeans. I paid a lot of money for these babies!
Violet let out a deafening cackle, the noise trickling throughout the cafeteria, and soon the rest of the Populars were joining in with their own laughter. Trevor was still staring at me and I looked down at my shoes, those unshed tears coming back and threatening to spill over and create a rival for the Pacific.
"Oh my God, you look pathetic!" Violet was screeching through her laughter and Trevor wrapped an arm around her waist as he started laughing too.
See, I told you. Match made in hell.
My breathing began to quicken and I looked to the opened doors of the cafeteria, it was as if they were beckoning to me, coaxing me to run out of the cafeteria.
A hand touched my arm and I looked over scared, only to see Sophia looking at me sadly, a frown on her beautiful face. I couldn't take it anymore. All of this pain and suffering was slowly suffocating me; I couldn't find the air I needed to breathe.
I shook off Sophia's hand and booked it into the hallway. There was hardly anyone there, only a few couples or straying students with nowhere else to go.
My only thought was to get out of there and change. I made it to the locker room and was inside the changing room when I remembered I forgot my clothes, again.
I sighed as I walked back outside, the sun drying up the ugly purple mess on my legs. The juice had left its own annoying sticky remains as a reminder and a tear slid down my cheek. I brushed it away quickly, hoping no one was watching but cursed myself under my breath when I heard the pattering of running feet.
"Jasmine! Jazz?" Sophia stopped in front in front of me, looked me over and pulled me in for a hug. "Oh Jazz, I'm so sorry." She was squeezing me tightly but I didn't feel anything; I felt numb.
Finally, as if a dam had burst on my insides, I felt my tears falling, their release quenching the unbearable stinging in my eyes. I took a deep breath, hoping to stop the crying, but it came out as a horrible sob.
When my fit was over, Sophia pulled away and gave a bright smile.
"Shopping trip?" I laughed through my lingering tears and Sophia's smile grew. I nodded and we both began to walk up to the office where we'd grab our passes to leave school early.
Some of the students would look over to us before turning back to their group and snickering. I kept my head down, not wanting to attract any attention, and didn't lift it again until I felt Sophia's nudge, indicating we had reached the office.
"Can I help you ladies?" The secretary asked lazily. She obviously wasn't her usual happy self and that could mean trouble if Sophia and I didn't do this carefully.
"Yes, my friend here spilled juice on her pants and we both need passes to leave so that she can change." The secretary eyed us suspiciously for a moment before turning to a filing cabinet and pulling out two slips from a pile. She turned back to her desk and filled them out quickly before handing one to me then the other to Sophia.
"Will you be back?" Sophia and I exchanged a glance before turning to the secretary, our heads shaking hurriedly. The secretary smiled, waving a hand in dismissal, before Sophia and I ran out of the office and throught the front doors. Her car was parked closer to the front so it didn't take us long to walk there and get in, Sophia driving the small distance to the mall.
We always went to the same mall because it had the cute little shop inside we both liked buying our jeans from. Although sometimes expensive, the shop was filled with the latest and greatest that Sophia and I adored. As we walked inside, Sophia was smiling and giving the occasional squeal that I would laugh at. She was the bigger shopper of the two of us but I was the practical one, making sure we both looked hot in whatever we bought.
