In Ettie's 40 years of being a Ghostbuster, never had she seen such damage on the containment unit. Sure, there was the whole thing with Peck before several million idiots elected him as mayor, but that hadn't cracked the wall or weakened the chamber or frosted the airlock mechanism.
It was mid afternoon when she had felt it: a horrific, pounding migraine that sent her collapsing to the couch for a solid five minutes. There was a terrible rumbling at the same time, much like the earthquakes Y/n had said happened in Summerville after Ettie went on her little quest to recruit the boys. The first thing she did when she was able to find her footing was run over to the firehouse. Callie and Gary were both equally confused about the random tremor, even more so when they went down to the containment unit to find the wall cracked in several places and the dock crystalized.
Because the ghosts were neutralized in the unit, Ettie didn't feel anything from them. However, the unit was weakened, and now she could feel something. It wasn't much, but it was enough to raise an eyebrow.
"Jeez..." Gary exclaimed upon seeing the state of the wall. "What happened here?"
"Something tells me, and this is just a hunch, it has something to do with that earthquake a couple minutes ago." Callie retorted, furrowing her eyebrows at the scene.
Gary tripped over his words. "Ah- well... yeah, obviously, but... I mean... Ettie, can you explain this?"
Ettie was running her hands over the cracks, feeling her skin get colder... but... internally. She didn't even risk touching the dock.
"No," she said after a moment, "I haven't seen this happen before..."
"What about in 1984?"
"'84 was different. Shutting the containment grid down didn't effect the unit physically, not like this at least. It just deactivated the proton field keeping the ghosts at bay, and they were able to just... well... pass through the walls. We just let them out." Ettie explained, looking at the frost again. "Whatever caused this was trying to get in forcefully."
Gary raised his eyebrows, a little startled by that information. "What, you mean something caused that tremor to get into the containment unit?"
Ettie glanced at him seriously. "I'm hardly ever wrong, Gary."
Later on, she gave Janine a call. They'd always kept in touch; you form a bond when you're the only two women fighting in the battle against the supernatural, you know? Anyway, she'd explained the situation and asked her to stop by. Janine was a bit more knowledgeable about Winston's little surprise for the new Ghostbusters, as Ettie was never good at keeping big secrets, and so she'd be able to determine if it was big enough to speed up the reveal process of whatever it was they were so keen on keeping under wraps.
It was, Ettie knew that, she just felt like having a coffee and a gossip with Janine like the good old days.
