I looked down at the star shaped mark that had appeared on my wrist. Arel explained that it was a sign of our bond (which I was still mad about).

I couldn't believe Arel. I didn't want anyone to be indebted to me. I looked over at the shifter, walking with me. He looked so content.

"Such an adorable idiot!!" I mumbled under my breath.

"I'm not an idiot, Vienna." He said, smirking.

Of course, he heard me. Stupid shifter hearing. I decided to stay silent for the rest of the time.

When we finally got to the Palace, there were guards everywhere. Everyone was running around searching for something.

"What the...!!"

I saw my father talking to the Knight Commander, Sir Harrow. I needed to know what was going on.

"Father, what's wro-"

"Not now, Vienna. We are looking for Vienna." He said, and I burst out laughing.

"What's so funny?? Wait... VIENNA!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!"

He yelled as he picked me up. He hugged me so tight I couldn't breathe.

"Put... me down....! Can't! Breathe..."

"I'm sorry. I was just so worried about you. Don't do that ever again." He said and put me down.

After Father called off all the searchers, he took me to his office. I'd never been in there before. It was simply designed with two desks for him and Tai. Sunlight poured in through the large windows, illuminating the whole place.

"Vienna, I want an explanation right now. Where were you the whole afternoon? What were you thinking?"

"..."

"Also, who is this child that is with you?" He said, pointing to Arel.

I had completely forgotten he was there. How was I going to explain any of this to my father?

"I apologise for worrying you so much, Father. I promise never to do this again. As for Arel..."

"I want to be Vienna's protector. I vow to care for her with my life." Arel said, saving me from explaining.

"Yes, Father. I would like Arel as my personal guard. Please." I gave Father my best pleading face.

If Arel became my personal guard, he could fulfil his vow, and I would get to keep him close. I had to admit I liked him a bit.

Father thought for a while before finally nodding.

"If he wants to be your guard, then he has to prove himself. I'll set up a meeting with Sir Harrow." He said firmly.

I jumped up with excitement and hugged him. He held me close before telling me to go get some rest.

"Vienna, please don't disappear without telling me." He said softly as I reached the door.

I ran back and hugged him tight, "I won't."

As soon as I stepped out of the office, Tai came rushing to me. He picked me up and hugged me. He told me about how worried he was, and I spent ten minutes trying to convince him that I was fine.

He only left because i told him I was tired. I barely made it a few steps before Rana came up to me. I love them all, but they worried too much.

"You're lucky to have so many people who care for you." Arel said as we entered my room.

His expression was unreadable, but I knew what he meant. I had experience with having no one who cares about you.

"Don't worry, Arel. You have me now, and I care about you." I said truthfully.
