Imani -the girl with no last name, and yet people still have many names they like to call her. Thief, Con-Girl, Thug, Truant, Rotten, Feral, Devil. Imani wasn't any stranger to these names, and she wasn't a stranger to the war. But simply just stating 'the war' didn't feel like it felt good enough.
The children born without homes and those that burnt the ones who used to have one. The camps set up to restore health into those who have fought. The burial sites that go on forever or the people who come back scarred forever.
All of this was just the tip of the iceberg, and all those reasons were the explaination on why Imani has stayed out of it. She had done nothing but be born. Born with a bending skill that was meant to be out-ruled. She thought she was some kind of spirit at first, but when realitly hit her -and it did hit her, hit her hard and without remorse- Imani went into hiding and she was still to come out
The life she was living in -the war she was living? She had no interest in it.
But the war had interest in her.Imani, the girl with no last name -and no history to link her with. She was like a ghost. You know when it's there, or where it's been and yet...you never can quite catch it.
Rumors of who she was -what she could do, traveled around the world, the stories altering from borderline truth to complete blatant lies. But there was the one thing that was the truth. The rumor of a girl born with air-bending. But the rest that followed were lies or hopes that would never ring out.
Imani was not the Avatar, and she wasn't coming to save the world from the war. She never asked for that duty, she never wanted that duty.If she could chose, she would have it that she'll never have to ever use these cursed air bending skill -ever. But that's not the way that it worked. As old things have strange hungers.
The feeling within her viens, what courses through her blood and keeps her breathing had a constant ringing that she must air-bend, that she must use the gifts she's been given. And it's hard to ignore when it's all you hear.Still, Imani prevailed.
For whether she like it or not, her history was infamous. Her very existence was a body of people demanding not to be forgotten. She could feel it in her blood.
And from what history books say, the air benders were kind. They were forgiving and peaceful. Imani couldn't understand what went wrong with her when she read that, for that part of air-bending 101 must've been skipped with her.Imani, the girl with no last name and no history to link her with -a girl sent from the spirit world, a girl sent to be remembered however loudly she pleases.
Imani, the impossible airbender.
