"No."

"Greyyyy...." she whines.

"No sweetheart."

She scoffs, crossing her arms over her chest and I resist the urge to roll my eyes.

"Don't be a baby Annabelle," I tease and she scoffs, again. "You'd know soon."

"Just tell me now!"

I ignore her, scrolling through my phone and from the corner of my eye I see her scowl at me.

I enjoy teasing her about little things, just as she also enjoys doing the same to me.

"What's the surprise Grey?" she asks softly this time around and my heart melts. "Can you please tell me?"

Oh I see, she's taken the soft approach.

Over the course of the months we've dated, I've learned one thing; if Annabelle tacked the word 'please' onto any request, I would find a way to fulfill it. No matter what.

Buy me a diamond, please.

How many carats, baby?

And she knows it too, so she's trying to use it against me.

Thank God the waiter brought our food just in time before I spilled the truth out.

"Let's just eat." I pick up my spoon before she could get any other words out.

We eat in silence before she speaks up again. "Gre—"

"Holy shit Annabelle," I cut her off, grabbing the books beside me and handing it to her. "There you go. First surprise."

She grins, unpacking the box before she halts her movement when her eyes drop to the gift.

Her eyes widens but she didn't say anything, I have no idea if she liked it or not. Annabelle released a sharp, audible exhale. Emotion sketched a vivid picture across her features, painting it with a thousand shades of shock, delight, and everything in between.

The way she was silent had my heart racing and the unreadable expression on her face had an uncomfortable lump forming in my throat.

Why wasn't she saying anything?

Was it too much?

"Mi sol?" I call out, dropping the spoon and my voice cracked against my will. "Annabelle please say something, you're scaring me."

Her gaze falls on my face then back to the box.

Holy shit, I've messed up.

"Grey this—" she shakes her head, cutting herself off before running a hand over her face.

I couldn't tell if she was upset or happy and the uncertainty almost drove me up the way.

"Grey..."

She didn't continue her sentence and that was what really scared me.
