Two years later.
"I'm home!"The door swings open and l close my hand around Alex's mouth to keep him from screaming or crying. My eyes darts to Ethan and Lucy's, seeing mischief in their eyes, mostly in Lucy's but I could work with Ethan too. I look behind the twins at my friends and they give me a nod of approval.
"Guys?" Grey calls out, his deep voice vibrating through the house and a shiver runs through my body. "Annabelle?"
I stifle a giggle at his nervous tone before I peeked at him from behind the couch. I give everyone a thumbs up and we all stand up, screaming 'surprise'.
But what I wasn't expecting was Grey to whip out his gun and point it straight at us.
"Jesus Christ, Grey put that thing away. You'd scare the kids." I snap, eyeing the gun while I pull Alex closer to my body.
His body physically relaxes as he drops the gun, putting it in his back pocket. "What's going on?"
"Happy birthday dad." Lucy says, beaming and smiling so hard it's hard to notice she had a gun pointed to her face just minutes ago.
"Oh." Grey eyes widen a bit before settling on mine. "Thank you princess."
All of us gather around him to wish him a happy birthday, dropping our gifts all on one table.
Within minutes he was beside me, "This was all your idea yeah?"
I feel heat creep up my neck to my cheeks as I place Alex on my hip making him wrap his small arm around my back to keep himself steady. "Yeah so?"
"Knew it." he chuckles, shaking his head as we both stare at everyone while Alex raises his hand for his dad to carry him.
Grey smiles down at him, turning his baseball cap backwards and pulling some of his dark hair across his forehead before nudging his nose to Alex's.
My heart melts as I watch my husband and my two year old giggle like children—well one was a child and the other was a grown thirty-four year old baby.
I shift my gaze to our twins who were bickering as usual. Ethan has his honey brown hair swept back with his glasses as he glares at Lucy who was poking him repeatedly. Lucy notices my stare and she lifts her face, tucking her dark hair behind her ear before she waves at me. Ethan follows her gaze, giving me a tight smile in response.
Memories of when we sat both kids down to explain how Grey is their father comes rushing into my mind and I smile. Lucy had no hard time coming in terms with it, she just said that it's for the better and she's happy to finally have a father to look up to. Ethan had the toughest time to accept it. He didn't believe at first, he had different questions for both of us and didn't even speak to us for days.
I remember how Grey took him on a boys only date which both of them swore never to tell me what happened or what they talked about after they got back and Ethan giving me the thumbs up.
