"Shouldn't their eyes be open by now?"
"Be patient Rosekit, she'll open them when she's ready."
"But I want to explore!"
"Wait for Silverkit and Maplekit."
"Hurry up!" whispered Rosekit. "Ripplefrost won't let me go until you and Maplekit are ready."
"Silverkit will open her eyes when she thinks she's ready." sighed Ripplefrost.
Yes, when I'm ready. Silverkit wriggled closer to Ripplefrost.
"Oh look!" Ripplefrost exclaimed, "Maplekit's awake!"
Silverkit felt Maplekit move beside her. Suddenly something landed on her squashing her into the soft moss.
"Rosekit!"
"Sorry!" said Rosekit and she rolled off Silverkit.
"Come on Maplekit, while we wait for Silverkit lets play!"
"Okay!" said Maplekit cheerfully.
"Catch!"
Maplekit and Rosekit scampered around the nursery fighting to get to the moss ball.
"I'm going to be the best warrior ever!" boasted Rosekit dangling the moss ball above Maplekit's head.
A warrior! No Rosekit, I'm going to be the best warrior ever, but first I'm going to open my eyes and go explore the camp with you.
Silverkit blinked open her eyes. Sunlight flittered in through the entrance. Maplekit and Rosekit were still playing with the moss ball. Silverkit stood up and took a few steps.
"Silverkit has started walking!" said Ripplefrost, "You can all go explore now if you like."
"Yay!" cheered Maplekit, "Lets go!"
"Come on come on." said Rosekit racing for the entrance.
Silverkit and Maplekit followed her into the camp.
The camp was a clearing with a stream dividing the camp in half. Dens were scattered around the camp.
"You should go meet your clanmates." said Ripplefrost appearing out after them. "Hey! Frostfeather!"
A silver tabby she-cat with blue eyes padded over to them, "Do you need something? Oh kits! Hi, I'm Frostfeather, I'm your older sister."
"Hi!" said Silverkit, "You look like me, but older." Compared to the other warriors she actually looks small though.
"Did Frostfeather not grow properly?" whispered Rosekit.
Frostfeather heard her, "I've only become a warrior recently, I'm smaller than the other warriors but I'm still bigger than you and the apprentices."
"When do you think we'll become warriors?" asked Maplekit.
"Warriors!" Frostfeather purred in amusement, "You aren't even apprentices yet!"
"We will be warriors one day!" said Rosekit.
"Of coarse you will." said Frostfeather. "Now, go explore the camp."
"Come on!" said Rosekit. "Bet you can't jump across that stream!"
"I bet I can." Silverkit retorted.
Silverkit padded over to the edge of the river. She crouched ready to jump. The water wasn't as calm as it seemed. The water swirled around and sent droplets of water into her fur. Shouldn't I ask Ripplefrost first? No, it will be fine, if I fall in I'll just swim to the edge.
Silverkit shuddered at the thought of being pulled into the stream. She leaped over the stream, Silverkit landed on the oposite bank but one of her paws slipped and she fell into the rushing water.
"No!" yowled Ripplefrost lunging for the stream.
Silverkit panicked and kicked out trying to keep her head above the water. Water filled her mouth and a wave thrusted her under. Her lungs ached for air as she fought to reach the surface. Her vision blurred, the water suddenly churned up once more another cat dove into the water. Silverkit felt herself being pulled up, she broke through the surface gasping for air.
Her rescuer set her down gently on the ground. "Hi, I'm Lilypool, the clan medicine cat. I'm also your mother's sister."
Ripplefrost licked Silverkit franticly. "Oh never frighten me like that again! I thought ou were going to drown! Thank goodness Lilypool was there to save you! I haven't heard you thank her yet. Come on lets go back to the nursery."
"Thanks Lilypool." said Silverkit as Ripplefrost steered her towards the nursery.
"No problem."
Silverkit collapsed into her nest. She was tired from her near drowning and sleep came quickly.
