Maya felt conflicted. Michael didn't call her after their date, and he hadn't reached out in the following days. Despite knowing he made it home safely, as her uncle mentioned seeing him at the studio, Maya wondered if her anxiety and family had pushed him away. They had shared their first kiss, but it had been two weeks since she last heard from him. He hadn't returned her calls or texts and hadn't opened her message on Instagram. Maya didn't want to appear clingy, so she stopped trying to reach out to him after finding out about his studio recording session. She decided to hang out with her two best friends, even though they hadn't apologized for ignoring her. Wanting to move on, Maya wrote a new song inspired by Michael's absence, and her friends encouraged her to enter the talent show.

Michael was struggling every day. He missed Maya so much - her voice, her touch, her smile. Even her beautiful face. His routine of talking to her before bed and when they woke up had become essential to him. When Joseph broke his phone, it devastated Michael. Not being able to hear her voice broke his heart and made it difficult for him to function. Going through each day as if she didn't exist was piercing him. He longed to have her close to him and felt a profound emptiness. His father's refusal to let him be happy also frustrated him. Even though he was only eighteen, he believed he was old enough to make his own choices. Michael isolated himself, lost in thoughts of Maya, who felt like a ghost haunting him. He clung to little M, as it was all he had left of her. He wondered if it was the end of them before they even had a chance.

"Yo Mike." Marlon called from the doorway.

Michael sat on the floor with his back against the side of his bed, his legs bent to his chest and his arms locked around his legs. He buried his face in his knees as he missed her dearly. Lost in his thoughts, his imagination was all he had left of her—the place he could visit to see her smile, hear her sweet laughter, and hear her say his name. The memories they had created seemed so distant to him, but he held on to them tightly.

Marlon walked in front of him and felt so bad for his little brother. He knew Maya made him truly happy, bringing joy back into his heart and world. He wanted that for him. Michael felt more inspired and more like himself, yet he couldn't understand why Joesph allowed his other sons to date while he wasn't allowed.

"Mike." Marlon says with a sigh. "I know you're down. I get it. But Mother is on the phone."

Michael gazed up at Marlon, and Marlon's heart ached with concern for him. It was clear that Michael truly cared for Maya. Michael extended his hand, and Marlon placed his phone in it.

"I won't be mad if you make another call after." Marlon says before walking away.

He closes the door behind him. Michael places the phone against his ear.
