The sun rose and fell many since the shadow play. Most of everyone has rested easy, thinking it was just a normal villain encounter that got resolved and wrapped up like any encounter. So that was it, then. There wasn't any reason to think about it too deeply, right?
But that was exactly what MK was doing. He's still pretty mad at Macaque, using his insecurities to spin his own narrative on MK's life. Taking his unresolved issues on him and implying stuff, when the monkey didn't even know a single thing about him and his relationships. And worse?
It might be working...
But he can't let his intrusive thoughts get the better of him. If what he heard from you back then said anything, it's that everyone's in this together. Your thoughts were just one of many that struggled under the looming threat created by this bone demon, giving him courage to put his own worries to rest. He didn't know why, but...It made him sleep better. Nowadays, he tried not to think about it.
He hiccupped, sending shockwaves across the district.
Especially when he had a different problem to deal with.
"This is the worst case of hiccups I've ever seen!" Pigsy forced his shaky knees back up, bruised from the shockwaves that made him trip. "How'd it happen?!"
Mei laughed nervously, tossing and catching her phone. "So, remember how you told not to enter that beef ball-eating contest?"
"Under no circumstances, yeah." He recounted, getting his face smooshed by Mei's phone, a picture of MK eating the meatballs displayed on the screen.
"Five hundred beef balls in five minutes!" MK cheered while spinning himself on the chair, proud of his accomplishment. "Yeah, boiiiii!" He hiccupped again, sending his face to land flat on the floor.
"Yeah, we think that might've been cursed." Mei gave MK her hand for him to take.
"So good though." MK quickly added as the dragon girl helped him get back up on his feet, before sitting him back on the chair like a preschooler on timeout. Pigsy couldn't even find it in himself to be surprised anymore, to used to the hero's antics. He wasn't mad.
Just disappointed...
"MK, of all the thoughtless adventure setups you could think of, this one takes the cake." He scolded, pointing at his basically-son with a wooden spoon. As always, Tang did little to reprimand the boy's actions, slurping on his unpaid bowl of noodles like there's no tomorrow.
"We tried everything!" Mei grabbed MK by the shoulders to demonstrate. "I tried rubbing his belly, giving him a good scare, and hitting all his pressure points! But nothing worked!" At a loss, her eyes laid on the scholar, scrambling to get his attention and nudging him by the elbow. "Oh Mister Tang, you've gotta know some ancient techniques for, uh, food poisoning curses, right?"
"Right, noodle guy?" MK copied her. "Huh? Huh?"
"EUREKA!"
Sandy burst past the doors, scaring one of the customers as he ran to the group with glee. Held above his head was some sort of book with a leather cover, similar to MK's little biography of Monkey King.
"GUYS!" He slammed the book down the counter. "I just found out what we can use to cure Bell! And it only took me weeks!" He proudly announced. Despite that, he seemed as if he never missed a single night of sleep. The same couldn't be said for Mo, however, meowing sleepily before collapsing on Sandy's shoulder.
Unfortunately, not everyone was blessed with Sandy's unwavering elegance
"Well, there's your answer, you two." Tang swallowed the food in his mouth, turning away from the M&Ms to face the blue giant. "So can this cure work on MK's hiccups as well?"
