Determination

In the floor of the closet lied Miranda's body. She was stabbed numerous times in the back, leaving a huge pool of blood. I choked back tears as Danny came rushing up the stairs. When he saw what I saw, he pulled me into a hug. Suddenly, my knees felt week. My head started spinning and I could hear a distant voice. Then, everything went black.
................................................................When I woke up, I was Ina hospital room, with a sleeping Danny gripping my hand tightly. I looked at the clock on the TV. It was 4 am and I'd passed out around 12 pm. I looked over at Danny. I smiled because I knew then that he was the one. We hadn't been together long, but I still just knew. No one had ever stayed with me in the hospital constantly. He was still in the same clothes from this morning, so I knew he hadn't been home to change. He'd probably been there since I got to the hospital. A chill suddenly jolted through my body, causing me to shake. It woke Danny up when I moved. "Hey you're awake," he said, kissing my cheek. I pulled him into a tight hug. I didn't let go for at least 10 minutes. I finally pulled back and asked, "Do you have any leads yet?" "Yes. We caught the guy who killed James and Miranda, but he was working with someone named Darwin who apparently kidnapped Katie. He told us what car Darwin is driving so we have a MAILE Amber alert out on Katie and the orange sedan. And we have roadblocks set up everywhere. We'll find her soon," he said. i was glad they'd at least caught one of them, but Katie was so important to me. I needed to find her. I got up out of the hospital bed on impulse. I grabbed my clothes and put them on, and headed for the door to my room. "Whoa whoa. Where do you think you're going?" Danny asked, grabbing my wrist. "I'm determined to find Katie and no matter what you say, I won't stop," I said. "When you fell, you hit your head and it bled a lot. You need to make sure you're ok," he said. "Danny, let go of my wrist, now," I said in a stern voice. "I'm sorry I can't do that. I can't let you get hurt," he said. "Okay," I pretended to let it go. "Thank you, now come here," he said pulling me into his arms. We started kissing and my plan fell into place. I finally was able to slide the handcuffs out of his back pocket without him noticing. I quickly cuffed him to the hospital bed. "You just played me," he said, looking hurt. "I'm sorry I had no other choice," I said. "Well you forgot one thing," he said. "Oh yeah? And what's that?" I asked. "I still have the key," he said. "You mean this one?" I asked, holding the key I'd taken. He cursed under his breath. "I'm sorry," I said. I walked over to him. For a moment, we just looked each other in the eye. Feeling guilty, I took the key out of my pocket and unlocked the cuffs. There was a few more minutes of no words, only eye contact. Finally, Danny took his hand and ran it down the side of my face. He tucked loose strands of hair behind my ears and kissed me. Then he grabbed my hand and piled me out the door. We walked out to his car. He got in and drive us to HQ. We were the only ones there. We walked inside and he sat down. I paced the room, running the name Darwin through my head. Darwin... Darwin... "Darwin!" I shouted. "What about it?" Danny said. i ignored him and looked up the plate number to Darwin's car. "We already did that. we already know who he is, we just don't know where he is," Danny said. When the results popped up, I wasn't surprised that my theory was correct. Katie's real mom was killed in a car accident when Katie's dad ran into a pole. She was taken away from him and he didn't like it. They made sure that he stayed on the mainland since Katie lived here on the island. He had tried to contact her, but Miranda didn't want him to lure her into going back to him. Katie's last name before adoption was Katie McLarron. The owner of the vehicle Darwin's accomplice described was Darwin McLarron. Katie had been kidnapped by her birth father. At about 7, Steve, Cath, Kono, Chin, and Grover got ther, and we got a call from HPD over the radio. "All units be advised, we are in pursuit of the orange sedan, license plate Charlie Bravo 4382 southbound on Puakai Avenue almost at Five-0 Headquarters," the dispatch stated. (Note: for anyone who doesn't know already, in military code, Charlie stands for C and Bravo stands for B, meaning that the license plate is CB4 382) I was the first one with the Kevlar vest and a loaded gun to get out the door. I was already in my car when the rest where coming out. The got in their cars and got ready to go. Grover, Chin, and Kono, all in separate cars, went a little ways down the road to block Darwin off. Danny, Steve, Cath, and I stayed behind to case him. Finally, the orange sedan came into view. Once he was directly in front of me, I put the car in drive and sped after him. After a minute of driving, he got to the place that was blocked off. He skidded to a halt, as did I and the others who were following me. I got out of the car and drew my weapon. I walked up to the driver side door and looked in the window. "Put your hands where I can see them, McLarron," I ordered. With a pained look in his eyes, he did as I said. I opened the door and yanked him out. I slammed him into the side of the car. I cuffed him and read him his rights. "She's my daughter and I just wanted to see her," he said. "Well that didn't mean for you to kill Miranda and James," I said, throwing him into the back of a squad car. I yanked open the back doors to Darwin's car to find Katie in the backseat, crying. I picked her up and held her tight.
