Hours later there's a knock at the door. "I'll get it!" Lanea yelled behind her as she ran to open the door. A frown spread across her face instantly as she realized that it was her dad at the door.
"What are you doing here?" Lanea spat at her dad. He was the last person she wanted to see right now.
"You need to come home now. get your stuff and lets go!" He replied with a evil glare in his eyes, grabbing her by the arm. She snatched her arm back in disgust.
"No! I'm not going anywhere with you, you're drunk again. I don't want to go so you can just leave........NOW!" Lanea spat, nearly yelling.
"Girl who do you think you talkin' to?!" He slurred his words and staggered a bit, proceeding to grab her arm again. "Let's go right now!" He hissed, pulling her out the door.
"No! let go, stop it! let me go!" She screamed, trying to pull away but he was too strong for someone whose drunk. Sean ran into the living room wondering what was going on. "What's going on Lanea?" His face changed from concerned to pure anger when he saw that her dad was trying to force her outside. He helped her free and told her to go to his room but she didn't listen. Instead she grabbed the phone and dialed 911.
"You need to leave now." Sean hissed between clinched teeth. Her dad chuckled as though what he had said was a joke and pulled out a switchblade. "Whatchu gonna do boy?" Sean saw the blade and was unmoved. "You need to get out of my house and off my property. I refuse to let you lay a hand on Lanea, you hurt her mother. Do you think you're a man? laying your hands on a woman?" Sean even challenged him with a chuckle. Mr. Brown is beneath him, he disgusted him, he's a joke. "Leave now." He spat with clenched fist. Mr. Brown chuckled again and started staggering towards Sean. He didn't see it coming, like a flash Sean was stabbed.
Crimson liquid seeped through his shirt. Lanea screamed "NO! Why did you do that?!" she ran to his side feeling hopeless and helpless. "That'll teach you to respect your elders boy." Mr. Brown chuckled. Monique ran into the living room. "What's wrong?! Is everyth- Oh my God Sean!" She screamed with wide eyes and ran to her brother's side. Sean fought to keep his eyes open and he was breathing heavily. Lanea pressed down on the wound to stop the bleeding. Seconds later the police came and arrested her dad. As soon as the ambulance drove away, Lanea couldn't help but feel like everything was her fault.
"Oh my God." she whispered to herself and began to cry. Monique pulled her in for a hug and cried with her.
"This sucks Mo."
"I know sis."
They hugged for a few long seconds covered in Sean's blood; they didn't bother to change instead the rushed to the hospital using Sean's car. They arrived and sat in to waiting room for several hours, anxious to know if Sean would be okay.
"Matthews?" A tall white guy with a white coat yelled out.
"That's us!" Mo shouted as they shot up and ran toward the doctor who looked defeated. "What is it doc. is he okay?" Lanea spilled out. He took a deep breath and began. "Look, Sean suffered enternal bleeding he has lost a lot of blood. We have him stabled but there's a possibility that he won't make it. I'm sorry girls, we did the best that we could."
As he walked away Lanea felt as though she couldn't breathe, she stared down at her hands as they began to ball up. She screamed and punched the wall, too angry to notice the pain, and the fact that her knuckles are bleeding. Her heart hurt far worse than that, it hurt way too much.
"Why?! why me? why does this always happen? First the attack, then mom now Sean?!" She screamed and punched the wall again this time creating a hole; tears streamed down her face. "Lanea none of this is your fault okay? This is tough on the both of us but we will get through this together." Monique said, hugging her best friend. Lanea calmed down then mustard up the courage to see Sean. She found the room he was in: room 104. She crept in and saw that he was sleeping, all that as heard was the beeping of the machines. All she could do was stare at him and let the tears fall.
She grabbed his hand and said a silent prayer for him and his mom. She felt destroyed, as if everything was beyond her reach. She kissed his lips thinking that maybe this will be the last time she will see him alive . It was a promising kiss, promising that she will always remember him. She laid her head on his chest and began to cry.
"Hey baby don't cry." She said with a raspy voice, smiling as he woke up.
"Sean?" she gasped.
"Hey. I told you I would never leave you. I promised." He replied sleepily.
"Sean!" Lanea exclaimed kissing his lips softly again and again, happy to know that he's okay. "Oh my goodness I thought I wasn't going to see you again. The doctor told us that you probably wasn't going to make it."
"Lanea I'll never leave you. I'll be okay." He replied. She took his hand and and kissed it.
"Oh Sean it's all my fault, if I stayed home the night of the party, my mom would't have gotten hurt, I would be the one laying up in the hospital and you wouldn't have gotten stabbed by my bastard of a dad."
Sean shook his head "Don't say that, I would do so much for you even if you don't ask. You are my world babe I mean that." Lanea couldn't help but kiss him again, she knew in her heart that what Sean said was the truth and that his words were sincere. The doctor came in to check on him and was dumbfounded that he was awake and functioning well.
"Sean, I thought you was a gonner. you're a tough kid. I'm glad your doing okay."
"Thanks sir."
Monique came in and sat with her brother while Lanea went to visit her mom just a few rooms down. She now have a new found hope that everything will be okay.
