Before I met You

Chapter thirteen

Elaine remained at the balcony although already calm and relaxed, she wanted to enjoy her time alone without people. It's been while since she had time to herself

So much has been going on the whole teach or groom Nathan thing, the upcoming galla , scandal with Carla. It was all too much for her considering she has an internal battle.

Thinking through it , all her activities have Nathan as the main character. She's 'teaching' Nathan how to socialize, she's participating in the galla with Nathan and Carla attacked her today because of Nathan.

Her mind now wondered to dark haired boy she had come to know.
The handsome guy with an appearance that can make him stand out in any crowd. His fair and well tanned skin characterized with a flawless face. At least that's how Elaine saw it.

Dark long hair with hints of golden brown under the sun that reached his neck but always kept in a bun. That didn't stop him from looking great though. He had well outlined facial features from a chiseled face to his thin but plump pink lips.

His unfathomable forest green eyes, deep and expressive . You could get lost if you stared long enough. His smile. ' Wait, why am I thinking of Nathan this way?' Elaine asked herself. It's okay to think about a guy but not in a descriptive way. That meant something else that Elaine didn't really want to think about.

She checked her wrist watch which read 3:09 am. Well it was time for her to head to bed. She sighed as she walked towards her room. She really dreaded sleeping now.

The following day. Classes went by pretty fast for Nathan. He and Elaine had to meet at the school cafeteria  and conclude on the events they would be participating in. Since they failed to come to a conclusion, Elaine decided they carry out both decorations and baking and Nathan didn't mind. To him all that mattered was spending time with Elaine.

He, too, didn't know why that's what he wanted to do. Just to annoy her though he pretended he didn't want to participate in two activities  hence why they were meeting in the cafeteria.

Right now , Nathan was with his crew on one of the tables in the outside garden. " .....right Nate....." Austin , one of Nathan's friends asked him. Nathan, who had been lost in his thoughts the entire time looked around too see all eyes expectantly looking at him waiting for a response. " Yeah yeah right" he replied absentmindedly. " Whoa, I didn't expect you to agree but ,wow ,that's amazing" Austin said with enthusiasm.

Nathan looked at Zack who merely smirked." What's going on?" A confused Nathan asked. " Well you just agreed to walk around the academy in your boxers" Zack replied
. His smirk turning into a grin. " Wait what?" A frown formed on Nathan's face. " I didn't agree to that" " Yes you did, I just asked you and you agreed" Austin replied. " No way , am not " Nathan replied. A horrific expression forming on his face. " c'mon.." Austin nudged him. " No.    " Nathan was cut short by Zack and Austin's laughter. " Man relax, we were just kidding " he said in between laughter. " Ok what's going on?" Nathan asked with a nonchalant expression. " okay man you were zoning out so we decided to trick you a little. " Austin replied as he tried to catch his breath. " What were you thinking about anyway?" Austin asked as he tried to steady us breathing. " Could it be a girl I suppose ?"

Zack chimed in. His smirk never leaving his face. " I don't know what your talking about" Nathan replied. " We're you thinking about Claire?" Zack asked directly now.  " No I wasn't " " Seriously you like her and now you deny thinking about her" Austin said. Nathan almost chocked in his spit.

"Excuse you? Like is a big word to use for a boy girl relationship " Nathan said. " Hmm ,I think that saying is used with the word love not like " Zack chimed in. He enjoyed moments of teasing in best friend and this was those moments .

" I talk to a girl and you assume I like her. I don't say the same about you" Nathan said feeling offended. " Oh please, she's the only girl you talk to, sit with for lunch , begged an apology from in short , she's the only girl you anything with" Austin said. " Well.     " a dumbfounded Nathan just looked on.

"I didn't know that's how it looked like" Nathan thought to himself.

Right as he was about to reply, a call interrupted them . It was Nathan's phone. " oh little miss perfect is calling" Austin teased. Nathan sent him a glare that shut him up but didn't remove the sparkle in his eyes.

Nathan decided to take the phone call away from his friends just in case they try to say anything embarrassing in the middle of the phone call.

Once he was far enough he answered it. " Hello" he said. "Hey , Nathan " his favorite soft melodic voice echoed through the phone. 'Wait melodic?'

Since when did he think Elaine's voice is melodic. It was probably due to all this nonsense his friends were saying.

" Umm... Nathan ..are you still there ?" Elaine asked . " Oh yes , yeah I am" his voice came out a little high pitched than it normally was. " Oh okay . So, I was saying, I won't be able to make it today something came up. Maybe we shall meet at tomorrow to cover up. " she said. " Oh okay . That's fine by me" he replied though a part of him was disappointed he wasn't going to see her.

" Phew , thank you for understanding. See for a second there I thought you weren't going to allow" Elaine said. " And why wouldn't I?" He asked. " I don't know because your Nathan Walkers. Always principled and all other words they use to describe you" she said with a laugh

Nathan immediately thought her laugh was cute and almost slapped himself for it. But what she had said was right. He was principled and always followed his schedule. He disliked last minute programmes . But then he had let Elaine cancel their programme immediately without a second thought. He knew deep down he couldn't say no to her. Even though he didn't want to admit it yet.

" Well am quite offended Ella, I didn't expect you to think so lowly of me"  He said through the phone. This time she actually laughed and he mentally pictured her laughing right in front of him. Her head slightly tilted and that one hair strand getting in her face. He saw her place her arm and putting the hair strand back in its original position just like she always did.

" That's who you are Nathan. You have just called yourself low. Someone might have lowered your ego before this call" she said through the phone. Her voice laced with amusement. He pictured her looking at him with her sparkling eyes. Waiting for him to reply with an egoistic statement which he did.He never disappointed.

" Not really, you speak of my character in a low way though initially it's high and rich that's why am offended Ella" he said. At the other end of the line, Elaine resisted a smile.

" Or maybe it's you who thinks so highly of yourself. Ever thought of that?" She asked him.

" I can't think of what I can never be sweetheart. Like you said am Nathan Walkers. " he said. " That still doesn't explain why my request was granted so easily " she said.

" Well neither can I , I think am malfunctioning " he said with a flat tone.  To Elaine, it was a joke. To him it was a serious matter at hand. Why was he being so soft on a girl? Bending he's principles for her? It was questionable for Nathan Walkers. It wouldn't be surprising if someone like Austin did it, but him?

It didn't surprise him when he heard Elaine's laughter through the phone. " Well, I'll let you figure that out yourself. I really gotta go right now. Byee" she said in between her laughter. " Bye Ella , don't miss me" he said . And she smiled at the other end of the line ." Oh I won't" she replied and she hung up before he could respond.

Nathan stared at his screen. Disappointed that he wasn't going to see her and that she had hung up. ' Why am I suddenly feeling like this?' He asked himself ' seriously, you like her ' a certain someone's voice echoed in his ears right now. Of all voices he wanted to hear right now, Austin's ranked bottom five. ' And Elaine's ranks first ' his consciousness told him.

He let out a low groan. Now he's consciousness was against him. He brushed off the feeling. ' It's because Zack and Austin have put it all in your head. It's nothing much. Nathan Walkers can never like a girl ' he thought to himself as he made his way back to his friends.
