"Right here, right now, I wanna know what's really going on between us."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It had only been a week, did he suspect something.
Oh shit, Mike! Mike told him that bastard!"Billie, I don't know what you heard but, it's not what it looks like."
"What? No, Lizzie, I don't know what you're talking about. I was talking about our friendship. I know you care about me, but you seem kinda... I don't know, distant from me, y'know? Are you still mad or something?" He stuck his hands in his pockets.
What the hell?
"Billie, no, not at all. I'm not mad at you." His face was still uncertain. He looked down at the ground in his little insecure way. "I- it's actually the exact opposite of that."
And then he looked up at me. All these years I've waited for those eyes to look at me like that. Those green little crystals lit up my world. I've never felt so connected to someone in my whole life. Oh wait, yes I have, Billie from a different time.
And then I just went for it.
I stepped forward on my tippy toes, (he was like 3 inches taller than me even though he was short), planted my hands on his cheeks ever so carefully and kissed him, like really kissed him. I could tell by the stiffness of his body that he was shocked at first, but then he relaxed and kissed me back. He wrapped his muscular arms around my waist and held me to him as I ran my hands through his soft dirty blonde hair. The kiss didn't last long enough. I could stay in that postion forever, in his arms. But...I couldn't breathe anymore so I pulled away slightly.
Our noses were still connected. He let go of his grip.
"Umm..." was all I could say.
"So...." Billie said, his cheeks turning red. And then we both laughed.
I looked at my watch.
"Shit, Billie! We've gotta go, we're already late.""I guess you got to sidetracked kissing me..." he said with a smirk.
I smiled up at him. This time, I was turning red.
"Well, I guess I could say the same about you."I smiled and he did too. We got to school, fashionably late, but who cares. We met back up with Mike at lunch.
"Uh, dude, Billie, what's up with your hair? You usually try harder than that."
Crap.
"Well, Mike," he chuckled, "I just got a late start today man. Y'know?"
"Mhmm," Mike said while glancing at me. Then he winked.
Oh know, he's on to me.
I looked down at my food trying not to give myself away. I was really embarassed but happy as well.
I fell asleep that night not knowing what would happen next, but one thing I did know for sure: my first kiss belonged to Billie Joe Armstrong.
And there were no regrets.
