Chapter 37

~Katniss's POV~

I stand in front of Cinna who has each hand placed gently yet firm on my shoulders for comfort as I look down, about to cry. The elevator that leads me up to the games stands in front of me. My heart beats feel uneven and my breath is heavy. "I'm 8 months and 2 weeks pregnant Cinna," It's hard to talk because my throat is so dry from anxiety. "I can't run or I might break my water."

"We already talked about this. Gale and Madge will run to the cornucopia. Madge watches Gale's back as he grabs some quick recourses. You only walk a few feet. Peeta will run and come get you." I nod dully.

The elevator door opens as the seconds go off. My eyes widen as I eye Cinna and he nods. I lick my lips then bite. He slips something on my jacket and I look down to see what it was, my mockingjay pin. "Thank you." I whisper and he helps me up into the elevator.

"I'm betting on you," He says. "Girl on fire."

His voice rings in my ears and the elevator door shuts. I start to shake in fear and it goes up. I stare above me and bang gently on the glass, that is until I was fully above. The light hits my eyes and I can't see anything till my vision adjusts.

"Welcome, to the 74th Hunger Games."

Either everyone looks ready to kill or ready to die.

I don't know which one I am. I scan the area in search of my friends or boyfriend only to find Madge first. She has her fists clenched tightly and in a running stance.

30.

The seconds boom around the land and I find Peeta then soon Gale. Clove stares at me and at first she has a look of sympathy but then it fades as she shakes her head. There is something off about my friends. Well, who I thought were my friends.

10.

I get ready and keep my eyes off of everyone else. I need to stick to the plan. Watching the clock above the cornucopia, then the horns go off. Everyone bolts for the cornucopia. I step off and head a few feet to meet Peeta running towards me. He doesn't say anything, he just picks me up bridal style.

How the heck can he pick me up?

Madge and Gale join us as we all head for the woods. "Where to?" Madge asks.

"Just run." I answer for everyone.

As we are running, we come face to face with Foxface. Her big eyes fill with fear. Gale brings out his sword but I stop him, "Let her go." He still is ready to kill her but I yell louder, "Gale. I said, let her go." He puts the sword back and she looks to me thankfully as I give her a small smile. Then she runs to the left, away from everyone.

"I don't care if I'm in a wheelchair, I'm mentally unstable, or I'm half dead," I angrily get down from Peeta's arms and get in Gale's face with a finger pushed against his chest. "You will listen to me Hawthorne."

He only gulps and I stand in front of everyone. "Follow me."

I start to walk but Peeta says, "Wait Katniss don't—"

"Peet let her go." Madge kindly suggests.

Thank God for Madge, I was about to unleash. We keep walking further and further until I find a hidden cave. "Guys, in here." I command as I start to climb down into the hole. "Why didn't we just climb into a tree?" Gale asks.

"Well. In two weeks I'm scheduled for birth, Peeta can't climb. Madge is afraid of heights." I put my hands on my hip to watch him as he drops the attitude.

"This is actually a really good place. Good job Kat." Peeta kisses my cheek and I smile.

"What did you guys get from the cornucopia?" I ask, interested.

"Water, a bit of food, weapons, rope, goggles." Gale picks up a pair of goggles that look familiar. I take it from him and identify it.

"They're night vision goggles." I answer and set them down.

"Well I think we got enough. Do you think we got sponsors?" Madge asks.

"Defiantly." Peeta states confidently. There has to be at least one sponsor. These Capitol people are full of drama, I am pregnant with my two best friends who love each other and boyfriend. Plus, Effie is very manipulative and knows just what they like. I lean back on the dirt and put my hands over my very large bump.

I'm terrified.

"Guys," I say. "I just realized that this, right here, right now, might be our last moment together."

"Catnip don't say that. We will all be here for Arabella. I promise."

"I think we should go ahead and get some rest." Madge suggests.

"I'll take watch." Peeta volunteers. "Me too." I also volunteer.

"You sure?" Madge asks and I nod. They both roll over and doze off as I lean on Peeta.

"I'm scared to give birth. I was already to give birth in the hospital but now, surviving in a life or death game with all the pain. I probably can't scream in pain without tributes finding and killing one of us. It's not like any of us can prepare to help me push—" I blabber on and on till he shushes me.

"Honey, everything is going to work out." He hugs on to me a bit tighter. "But what if it doesn't?" I ask.

"Don't think of it in that way. Think of what if it goes perfectly okay." I nod. Peeta is always so comforting and knows just how to make all stress fade away. That's why I'm so glad to have him here with me right now.

It's honestly so weird to think only around two years ago, I was in high school. Peeta was only my best friend. Look where I am now. A lot of people with my past would've hated life, and in the situation right now I'm sorta feeling that way, but I'm trying to look at the positive.

I'm going to be a mum.

An actual mum to a beautiful baby girl.

Personally, I don't care if I'll have to fight for her life too, because I can't wait to hold her in my arms as she looks up to me and opens her eyes.

To see her mother.
