Chapter 17

-Katniss's POV-

I wake up screaming. "Dandelion!" I scream. I hear the door open and Peeta runs in. He sees me sobbing and frighten so he runs over to the bed and I hug his waist, my head on his chest, crying. "She's gone." I cry. "I know, I know Katniss. Let it all out." He soothes me and pets my hair. "I wanted to save her." I whimper. "I wanted to too, but it was destined." He winces.

"If she just stayed in 3 or 4 months, maybe she could of lived." I hiccuped from crying. Once I catch my breath and calm down, Peeta gets up. But I catch his hand, "Stay with me?" I pled, scared of the nightmares. "Always." He replies and I end up falling asleep on his chest.

-----------------

I wake up and see that Peeta isn't next to me. I really miss him being my boyfriend but I would feel bad just dumping Nick and going straight to Peeta. I never allow Nick to sleep next to me because I feel like it should have been Peeta instead of him. I just wish I never moved. I belong here, with my group, with my Peeta.

I go to Peeta's room and see a picture of me in a blue sundress that has white polka dots, 5 months pregnant with Dandelion, and Peeta has his hands on my stomach. I look down at my flat stomach and put my hands on it. I remembered when I had a baby bump there, how happy I was. A tear rushes down my cheek and someone comes behind me. "I miss her too." I hear his soft voice, I turn around and nod. "Are you okay?" He asks concerned and I give a small smile. "Im fine." I lie and go out of the room.

I glance to find Nick. "Morning." I yawn. "Morning Kat." He greets back and walks down the hallway. I go downstairs and see breakfast is served. "Morning." I bid everyone. I hear a few mornings and yawns in response. "Katniss?" Nick questions and I mumble a yes, taking a bite of apple. "Who is Dandelion?" He asks. I choke on my apple and spit it out. Peeta comes next to me and whispers, "You didn't tell him?"

"Of course I didn't!" I growl. "Nick I don't need to tell you right now." I sigh, trying to get him to shush. "Why not? You aren't pregnant are you?" He almost shouts. Peeta snarls to himself, "Why would he think she would be pregnant?" I glare at Peeta for his unnecessary concern. "It wouldn't be my baby." Nick innocent resorts. "I don't want to tell-" I get cut off rudely by him. "Why?" He presses on. "Nick, some things I can't tell you yet." I sigh, annoyed by his behavior lately.

"Whatever." He grumbles something I can't identify. "Excuse me?" I almost yell at him, "Say that to my face!" I scream, absolutely outraged of him. He gives me the bird and I gasp in horror then walk, more like stomp, towards my bedroom door, slamming it shut as I enter the room. He's such a jerk sometimes.

I grab my dad's hunting jacket and slip it on. I braid my hair and rush downstairs. "Kat-" Clove starts but I cut her off, "I'm going hunting." I spat harshly and run to the woods. I duck under the fence and look for my tree. Once I do, I reach inside and feel the smooth wood of my bow. I grab it and my arrows. Then I pick up an arrow and load my bow. I tip toe quietly around the forest until I see a deer. It looks around 150 pounds. I aim at it but it runs away.

I sigh rather frustrated but pick up some leaves nearby and crumble them up, releasing them into the wind. The deer stops and sniffs. I hide behind a tree and glance back at it seeing it is still standing there.

I aim but once again it runs away. I find a pebble and throw it. It runs away but turns directions. I aim once again and let the arrow fly. It goes into the nose of the deer. I smile relieved I got something and grab the deer. I make a fire to keep warm and skin the deer. Once done I pick up my game bag and place the deer in it. I run out of the woods, putting my bow away first of course.

I walk to the Seam, the poorest part of our district. I see homeless people eating chicken bones, children playing the mud, I run past and go to The Hob. It smells of dust and makes me sneeze.

I walk to Stan Mellark, Peeta's cousin who owns a bakery for the poor people in the Seam. "Ah Katniss! How are you?" He genuinely questions and I smile. "I'm great." I reply gratefully. "How are you and Peeta?" He continues and I look down. "Katniss?" He snaps me out of my daze and I look up. "I, um, we aren't on very good terms right now." I shrug, holding the subject passes. "Oh. Well whatever it is I bet you guys will be back together." He nods and gives me yarn, buttons, and cloth for the deer.

"Why so?" I raise an eyebrow with suspiciousness and confusion in my tone. He smiles, "You see Peeta and you are like magnets. Exactly like magnets really. You guys are the complete opposite but you know opposites attract with magnets but the thing is no matter how hard you try to pull them apart it might work for a while but you guys will find each other in the end." He states.

"I agree. Thank you Stan." I smile and take the stuff. "Of course Katniss." He bids goodbye as I do the same and I go out the hob to the house. "Katniss is that you?" Glimmer shouts from the living room. "Yep!" I squeak and set the cloth, yarn, and buttons down on the table.

"Oh good." She grins, walking in and examining the stuff. The same thought roams through my mind.

Opposites attract.
