The Devil
°•○●♤●○•°

I've had twenty attempted murders aimed at me in the past month.

Ten of them were attempted in my sleep.

Seven of them were attempted while I was in my office.

And the last three came from food poisoning.

I only survived because it was easy to lift a 5'5 skinny girl off my body.

If only she wasn't so concentrated and fast she would've had the same coming for her.

Her moves were slick and quiet. The way she moved could only be compared to a snake.

She slithers around you and before you know it, her venom is already in your bloodstream, killing your organism.

I was watching her through the security cameras that were set in her bedroom.

Dante called me to check on her, since she has, once again, proved her extraordinary killing skills.

She lay on the bed, her legs under the sheets as all the weapons she brought were neatly placed in a semicircle around her.

Not even a step away from the door laid the lifeless body of one of my maids.

"This is the third one this week," Dante pinched the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes in annoyance.

"You can't let this keep happening." His voice behind me is bitter, not revealing his usual self.

"What do you want me to do?" I look up at him and his face is stoic.

I don't like people telling me what to do, thinking I have no idea of my surroundings, yet they always seem to forget that every beat my heart projects is planned.

He sighs under his breath as my sharp eyes turn from the screen to look at him.

I could tell what he wanted to do, and I was just about to give him the reasons why I wouldn't.

I turn back to the screen.

"Rewind the footage," I order him and he does as I say, but not before rolling his eyes.

The woman enters the bedroom with the tray of food as my Bella sits straight on her bed, the same way she is sitting now, looking straight ahead of herself.

The maid sends her a warm smile but before she can even mutter a word, Bella takes the gun and shoots her without even flinching.

I pause the footage as Dante looks at me confused.

"So what, she shot the poor woman, what's so big about that-"

I shut him up by zooming in on her face as he focused his eyes on her features.

Not only was she stone cold but she also...

"She didn't even look," he says, intrigued. His hand moves to the computer mouse as he focuses on the maid lying on the floor seconds later.

"Clean shot." Is the only thing he says as he sits back in his chair in shock.

I nod as he stares into space.

I've heard a lot about Isabella Valentino over the years and with every new information, my blood boiled with envy.

"So, the rumors are true," he asks, and  I start to nod before he finishes the question.

Years ago, a rumor was spread, that The Valentino Mafia was trying to create a human that's able to kill like a machine.

For a while, people believed it, and with the fact that Romano hasn't been gone in public for years, neighboring mafias started preparing themselves for the worst.

However, for years no one heard from Romano, and the rumor died down... Until one day.

The killing rate of the Valentino Mafia significantly increased in less than a week.

And it was all the fault of the young lady on the screen.

She has killed 50 people, cold-blooded, without even budging.

Twenty of them she burned to death, other thirty she massacred.

All on her own.

"So what, she's a robot? You turn her on and off?" Dante asks behind me.

The fact was, I had no idea how her mind worked. It was complex.

She knew she was killing people, but it seemed like at a certain number of deaths her brain just stopped counting.

As fascinating as it is, it's also intimidating.

And I love it.

She doesn't believe she's doing anything wrong, and for that, I blame Maria who didn't tell her the whole truth.

It was sick and twisted, but I couldn't help but admire the work.

Their perfect project,

l'Ombra  (the Shadow)

It was sick and twisted, but at the end of the day, I was a sick and twisted man myself, what else could you expect from me?

Dante goes back to the live camera and jumps from the shock as he finds my Bella looking directly into the camera.

"Holy fuck. Is she possessed or something?" He looks at me as he gets even more creeped out by my slight grin.

"No," I say turning away from the security setup, "She's just homesick," I close the door of the security room behind me.
